Description

Named by James Gunn as an influence for Gods and Monsters, the first chapter of the new DC Universe film and television slate! This New York Times bestselling story inspires the upcoming film THE AUTHORITY. The Authority are heroes in only the strictest sense of the word. Ruthless and unforgiving, this group of insanely powerful superhumans face down countless menaces to Earth, protecting mankind with their cold version of justice. An invasion from an alternate Earth, an international terrorist who is laying waste to major cities and a hostile alien intelligence who calls himself God all fall under their rule. This is THE AUTHORITY. Pay allegiance. Or get your head kicked in. Created by legendary writer Warren Ellis (THE WILD STORM, TRANSMETROPOLITAN) and artists Bryan Hitch (JUSTICE LEAGUE), Paul Neary (The Ultimates) and Laura Martin (WONDER WOMAN), THE AUTHORITY is considered one of the most groundbreaking titles in modern comics history. Collects issues 1-12, PLANETARY/THE AUTHORITY: RULING THE WORLD and a new story from WILDSTORM: A CELEBRATION OF 25 YEARS. Read more

Amazing comic at least I can catch up before the DCU starts

  • No Fuss
Straight forward heroes saving you from everything, without all the extra fluff. It's not Suicide Squad but it sure does come close.

  • Interested in How Superheroes Have Changed Throughout History? This is a Must Then!
Trigger warning on some abrasive topics told in 90s comics manners at times. This series is hailed as truly kicking off a new age of superhero! There is a lot in the set up and surrounding that really prove this claim! From their base to the team and how they function! The team build for the most part is really great!! The amount of women, and diverse women at that, on the team is inspired! Having queer heroes is so phenomenal too! There is notable underutilization with longtime Stormwatch team member Swift. Also Midnighter is notably missing a lot of what makes him amazing in later books. Given the amount of creativity flexed in Warren Ellis' Stormwatch, the repetitive nature of the threats posed in this book were disappointing. There is still some really creative concepts in the threats themselves though. Overall fantastic cast of characters, where mostly everyone shines in how unique and fun to follow they are! Seems like a must for people interested in the superhero genre! ... show more

  • Very different kind of book.
I found it quite charming. Can't wait to see the movie once it comes out. I kind of fell in love with these characters very fast. I am a newbie to them but I loved every minute of this book.

  • Surprisingly enjoyed it
I didn't think I'd like this, due to hating other DC tie-ins, but I did even if it was one crisis after another and had multiverses. But I guess if you have a Justice League with no relationship or emotional drama dysfunction (the absences for the better), you have to throw armies, dimensions, and elder gods at them to have a story. ... show more

  • Interesting premise, emotionally intense; definitely for mature audiences only
The themes in these three stories are definately geared for an adult audience. These are not your "typical" superheros and the stories actions skirt well outside thee moral norms of most such tales. However, these are well constructed and compelling stories with art work that helps move the stories along. If you like your superhero tales to be edgy and your heros people who don't conform to the usual norms than this is the graphic novel for you. ... show more

  • Excellent Work
This is a very enjoyable title. Interesting premise, well-executed, hopefully the rest of the series continues to be this good.
