Top Amazon Reviews

  • Top notch quality camera and light that is easy to setup and use
1) I installed the light myself, replacing an existing motion-sensor light. The physical install was really easy. I could have used 2 or 3 extra inches on the power wires for my particular install, but the length they were would typically be fine for most installs. Once it was powered up, I was able to see it and pair it with the app pretty quickly. I didn't run into any issues at all during the physical or wireless setup. Please note that I am a computer tech by trade and I do much more complicated installs of equipment regularly. Regardless, I thought the steps were very easy and even someone with limited technical ability should be able to complete the setup. 2) I found the metal body of the lights to be very sturdy and strong. Much better than I expected. I found the lights to be easy to adjust and then secure in place. I appreciate that the LEDS are on the warmer side (3000K to 3500K light). I do not personally like the stark 5000K LED light so having warm LEDs is a big plus for me. The amount of light produced by the LEDs is great. I live in the country and it lights up the area very well. In fact they are bright enough that I would be a bit worried they would be too bright if installed in a small back yard in a city neighborhood. The picture of the lights on Amazon is misleading as they appear to have a frosted lens while the model I received has a clear lens so you can see the LED diods. Doesn't affect how the light works though. 3) I was disappointed that the camera housing is plastic. I hope that will holdup with time. The camera quality though is great for a 1080 resolution camera. Very clear and sharp. The night vision is also sufficient, though I think the IR range could be better for my rural install since it's a large area. It would be fine for a typical home install. I did install an SD card for recording, which was easy to do. I did find that the microSD port was "backward" from what I expected. Typically the contacts are away from you when a card is inserted. Just an observation. 4) I have found the Smart Home app to be very easy to use and pretty responsive on my phone (Google Pixel 3). I was able to find most of the features I needed. I was a bit confused about setting up recording on motion only, but did eventually figure that out. I do have two gripes about the app. The first is that when I am playing back a recording I have not found a way to play the file at faster speed, fast-forward it or to "scrub" through the video. This makes if very cumbersome to review footage. I can do these things if I download the file to my phone or access it from the microSD on a computer. Not convenient to do when quickly looking at recordings though. The second complaint about the app is that it was not at all intuitive as to where a downloaded video file was located once it was downloaded. I had to fumble around until I found it on the main menu of the app. Once I was there though, I could then do what I wanted to with it. 5) I use several other Amcrest cameras around my house with the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software. I was able to search for and easily add this camera in to the Surveillance Pro software on my PC with no problem. 6) Overall, the camera and light are top notch and I have no major complaints! ... show more

  • This is my new favorite outdoor camera.
The media could not be loaded. I've used a few different ecosystems of cameras around my home (Nest Cam, Blink, Arlo) and they've worked well overall. The performance this Amcrest offers is amazing in comparison. I was a little intimidated by the hardwiring aspect of the product, but that fear was quelled quickly once I got into it. I removed one of my pre-existing exterior lights with 2 screws and saw just 3 wires that needed to be untwisted to remove, and retwisted with the camera system to install. It took a bit of finagling to get the lights to point the way I wanted over my garage and yard, and the camera to point at my driveway, but worked out well. It can use a MicroUSB card, which is installed into the device. A cloud subscription is also available, but I didn't opt for it. I popped in a card and powered it up. I connected it to my wifi network and put the app on my phone. It all worked really well and easily. Based on my long-term experience with Blink systems, this light/camera is so much better. The delay between a triggered motion and my notification is much faster. Because it's hardwired, there isn't a nagging reminder to stop viewing live footage to preserve battery as Blink does. The video is amazingly clear. And I can access all of the stored clips from the MicroSD card from my app on my phone with no subscription fees! Even the intercom functionality is faster and easier to use than Blink. Blink takes about 4 seconds to send and receive a "live" announcement, making it hard to have a conversation. This camera only takes about 1 second, which makes a more natural conversation easier. The LED floodlights are also incredibly bright. I'm very impressed. One thing software-related I appreciate is that you can select trigger zones to start recording. If you have a busy road or sidewalk in view of the camera, you can make it so it won't start recording if specific areas have motion. This is something not all Amcrest cameras offer, and hopefully in future software updates to them, they'll get this fantastic feature that this camera has. Pros: + Great quality recordings + Selectable trigger zones + Bright lights + Subscription-free storage accessible by app Cons: - If you're not replacing a pre-existing light, you may need an electrician This is my new favorite camera. ... show more
