  • Great Cameras Can Take the Heat, Meh NVR
Color: White - 8CH NVR + 4 Bullets (2.8mm) w/ 2...
For the price of the bundle the cameras are amazing, especially when at full quality. I have one front lawn facing and can often pick out license plate numbers of moving cars as well as getting a decent throw of light when in night vision! The cameras are also resilient, they keep running even when it has been 110 degrees out and in direct sunlight. That being said the NVR is just not up to par with the cameras at all. The interface is miserable with no ability to use a keyboard, the fan runs at full speed so do not put this in a room you want to be silent. I ended up ditching the NVR, using the cameras as IP cameras and going with something a little more user-friendly NVR software on my NAS. While you can always spend more money for a better camera setup, I definitely can say Amcrest sets the inflection point for diminishing returns with these, you'd have to spend a lot more to get a slightly better image. ... show more

  • you are unable to connect to the system using a modern browser & view on a local connected network
Color: White - 8CH NVR + 4 Bullets (2.8mm) w/ 2...
I had just spent over $1700 on this system including bullet cameras, PTZ camera, cables etc. I had it set up on the kitchen table in minutes, in fact it accessed our inhouse Wi-Fi Amcrest (Dog) Cameras we already had. We could not access the Amcrest NVR by the local wired connection to view on a local computer. The systems ask for/requires MS internet explorer. finally found an old copy to use. Still unable to port into the NVR IP address to access for remote viewing of the cameras via wired connection. I have spent 2 days going over web searches, YouTube videos, fully opening up the router with no firewall, etc. and still unable to access the Amcrest NVR remotely by a wired, wireless or internet connection. The big flaw is the NVR has no keyboard support. The Amcreat NVR is located in an electronic closet in the house with other network gear separate from the general living area and in house/work at home office space. The entire goal or use would be the same as our older system, view it in the office area for when deliveries arrive etc. like our older analog system that has been running for over 7 years now 24/7/365. The analog cameras are starting to fail. We just wanted to upgrade to a newer security system. The problem is we cannot access the Amcrest NVR remotely in anyway. I have ported, changed IPs opened gateways etc. but the system refuses to let anything view it from outside the Amcrest NVR. Very disappointed in the purchase. It should not be this hard to connect to a local area network to view on a local Windows PC on a somewhat modern browser like Chrome or Edge. Internet Explorer is outdated and no longer supported by MS. The Amcrest NVR does not work well on the MS Edge browser. Futers that it had with the explorer browser are missing. Can not view more than 4 cameras at a time in MS Edge, Can not use the mouse for touch and point with the PTZ camera Still to the point we cannot see the IP or find the IP on a local area network for this Amcreat NVR system. NV4108E-IP8M-2496EW4-2TB. The Amcrest NVR needs a proper software update to work with modern browsers like Google Chrome and MS Edge. The software is out of date for this NVR and they are still selling it. this is a huge problem. The system also times out after 60 minuets and forces you to log back in. The is just a joy when it has no keyboard support and you need to hunt a click with a mouse to enter your name and password every 60 minutes. Log in should last for 24 hours, or mor, not just 60 minutes Amcrest says this is for security, but who is coming into my house trying to access the camera system? It shows only 4 cameras at a time so if I need to view any of the other 8 cameras after login times out. I need to go back in and log in to the system when it should be just a be click to see the next camera, this would not be a problem if you could view more than 4 cameras at a time like it used to do with internet explorer. 60 minute time out is a joke. ... show more

Very happy with my purchase. Hardest part to setup was running the cable. The software takes a little getting used to but I am happy nonetheless!

  • Great cameras
Color: Black - 8CH NVR + 4 Bullets (2.8mm) w/ 2...
This is my second purchase of an Amcrest camera system. The cameras are great and setup was easy. However, I ordered black cameras so as to be more discreet and was disappointed to receive white cables. Also, two 60 ft and two 100 ft cables would have been better than four 60 ft cables, in my opinion, thus I am only giving four stars. ... show more

  • Perfect for the privacy-conscious user
Color: White - 8CH NVR + 4 Bullets (2.8mm) w/ 2...
I was researching for companies that created cameras/nvrs that didn't require some ridiculous external account to be created. Amcrest was one that stood out to me, and I am more than happy with the results. I started the process with grabbing the Mac Address and blocking it at my router, just out of paranoia. However, I setup logging so I could analyze what kind of data was attempting to be sent out. The one thing I did notice, which I really don't agree with, is the nvr DOES call out to Google DNS servers by default while trying to setup the network settings. My primary firewall blocks these requests, and the router redirects all DNS requests to my internal DNS server, so this didn't affect me - but I think that's something Amcrest could improve on. I also noticed that if your primary and secondary DNS servers are both inaccessible, the system still defaults to trying the Google DNS servers. Amcrest, please remove this default setting altogether. If primary and secondary fail, just make the DNS requests fail instead of trying to go out to Google for the request. The only other network call I noticed was that these DNS requests were for some AWS server. I decided to start a packet capture at full verbosity, and threw the results into Wireshark. Turns out these DNS requests, after getting their destination, were simply for the firmware site they have. Analyzing all the data, I saw nothing of concern for privacy. I will say, though, that I declined everything during the setup process - including checking for firmware. I'm not entirely sure why it's still trying to do checks for the firmware, but I'll look into that. It may be the individual cameras doing it. In the end, I connected these cameras to my Home Assistant server, so the NVR itself is 100% offline - blocked at the firewall completely. Home Assistant handles watching the footage. Caveat to this is getting notifications for motion detection and other alarms... Still working on this, but I can say that if anyone out there is looking for an NVR setup that doesn't require big brother, Amcrest is the way to go. Their software allows you to connect to your NVR by direct IP/Port, and does not do any hops in between to some external server(s) like other brands do. I've got the 4 cameras + their nanny cam and can at least confirm this is the case for these cameras and that one. I cannot confirm if this is true for any of their other devices (yet). I also cannot confirm if there's anything beyond the DNS + Firmware requests if I had the thing sitting on the Internet for a long time since I have it completely blocked out... But overall, I think Amcrest is the BEST option available for anyone who cares about their privacy and doesn't want some employees snooping in on their lives. :) ... show more

I've installed cameras for Tyco in the past and can say these Cameras are quality made. My cameras have been up now for 2 years. We live in a very windy area. It also gets very Hot and down to the 20's here. Not 1 issue with these cameras. NVR is easy to use and navigate. Technical support helps with any issues you have. Worth the $$. ... show more
