Top Amazon Reviews

  • Revised down to 3 stars after I understand the device auto restart drawback. Otherwise it is a solid 5 star unit
Size: Standby Style: 12 Outlet (800VA)
Original review (scroll down for revised update) OK, I appear to be one of the early adopters for this product & so far so good. I have the 450W 800VA model. Power cord & plug: right angle plug with the prongs rotated to allow easy access to the 2nd outlet = good. Power cord is about 6 feet = good Casing is some grade of ABS plastic, it feels & sounds kind of thin, but as I an mot intending this thing to be a foot rest or a doorstop that will get impacts I am not concerned. Plastic finish is pretty good. The battery comes already connected to the internal power cords - which I did not expect, I was thinking it would ship like APC units do where you open up the battery compartment & connect it yourself, which is a safety in shipping thing, but it was not the case. In the 450W unit you get a 9Ah 12V SLA battery. It looks like a normal standard battery that I can replace at some point in the future when it quits. Plenty of outlets on this thing, which is a pro & a con. Pro - there are lots of them, con, this makes them pretty close together & so if you have any slightly larger power bricks you are plugging in, you might be forced to use every 2nd outlet & reduce the number of effective outlets you get. This is a potential issue for some. I had enough outlets available for my needs, but I did have to alternate some of them & my power bricks are not that big (like the one I need for my Amazon Fire TV etc....) The handbook that comes with it is OK, not great, it does fail completely, to mention that there is downloadable software that can be used to change settings on the device. Download it! The software kind of feels like the APC software, but it has a few more features that you can adjust, which is nice. I turned off the alarms as I didn't want them, it also shows you a battery health & anticipated life, given the draw on the unit at that time. The battery life will vary dramatically depending on what is plugged in. (Some people apparently cannot do simple maths and cannot understand that if this is a 450W unit, why a 1000W load is a problem.....) One thing that might be annoying & it might just be my unit, when I plugged it in, I get a faint, but audible transformer buzz from it. It is irritating, but in my application I am putting the unit in a location away from where I would be normally sitting so it is not a concern, however if this is plugged in next to your workspace, the buzz might get on your nerves. Again, this might be a one off, but I noticed it immediately. Overall, so far it is looking like a good value for the money if you make sure to load it within it's capacity rating. One thing I have not yet found out is if it will auto restart after a power outage & full battery depletion, as I want it for a router & modem and it would be a pain if it does not auto restart. I might have to try to drain it fully by some experimenting & then re-apply power & see what happens (when I get a few hours to waste...) Revision from 5 star down to 3 star Date 8/5/18 A significant need for me with a UPS is the ability to restart itself after a power failure & battery depletion, which no one could answer me on this device. Today I learned that it does NOT auto restart after power depletion. We had a multi hour long brownout today, during which the UPS did perform flawlessly, for the duration of it's capacity, keeping my application alive for a nice long time. It did perform as intended and took over power supply when the input voltage dropped below a certain threshold (settable in the software). However, after the full line voltage came back and the battery was depleted & had shut the unit off, it did not restart. I had to manually press the button to restart it. This is a failure to me as I need the auto restart feature. My APC unit elsewhere did everything as it should have done & auto restarted itself, so as a consequence, I am ordering a new APC unit right after I type this, to replace this Amazon UPS. This is a dealbreaker for me, it may not be for you, your application is yours alone, as it mine & mine needed something different. I went from 5 to 3 based upon this, but this unit is a really rock solid 3 star unit for all its other functions, so if you do not need an auto restart, I still say buy this device. If you do need auto restart, don't buy it. I am actually pretty sad to say this, the unit had so much promise for me. I get no compensation for my reviews, you get the truth as I see it with no bias, hopefully this was helpful. I also tried to answer a bunch of the unanswered questions people posted on this device to help out. ... show more

  • Getting the Software is Cumbersome
Size: Line Interactive Style: 9 Outlet (1000VA)
Getting the software for this thing is a complicated and inconvenient process. The steps listed in the manual that comes with it do not work. If you open the User Guide in the Product Description section it has links to download the software, but they don’t work either. Instead, they mention the name of the software, PowerMaster +. You need to do an internet search for that name, which leads you to the software developer’s website, and from there you can get the software. Once you finally get the software downloaded and installed (choose local when it asks local or remote) you have to use a username/password to login. The defaults are admin/admin. When you get everything set up the software does give useful information, on the device itself, the UPS status (Input/Output/Battery) and a log of recent events. There are also menus that let you test the battery, estimate how long your computer will run on battery, and additional settings and reporting tools. ... show more

  • "Connecting to a computer" Documentation is Wrong
Size: Line Interactive Style: 10 Outlet (1500VA)
Just opened the UPS, so this is only about User Manual documentation in the section "Connecting to a computer" (on page 9 of both the PDF and printed versions), and working only from the amazon.com webpages. The B07RWMLKFM webpage did not have any "Technical Specification" section. (BTW, the (first) warranty link on the top of webpage was also useless. It only says contact the vendor (Amazon)!) However, halfway down the webpage there are useful links under the "Product guides and documents" section. The "User Guide" has links to the computer s/w, although it's call "PowerMaster 1.0.5" instead of PowerPanel. BTW, once you've installed the s/w and opened the app, use "admin" for both username and password (the first time, and, of course, change it within the app. That information can also be discover by clicking on the help icon on the PowerMaster login webpage. ... show more

  • Still going strong!
Size: Standby Style: 6 Outlet (400VA)
Purchased this 6-outlet 400VA 255W UPS back in May 2019. Been using it to power my Mini PC since. Full disclosure: I am only using this UPS to power one mini pc and one 24 inches monitor, so I didn’t really “stress” this UPS power supply. It has been through numerous power outages in the past 4 years and it is still going strong. The price is pretty decent, and it's been working well. If you are on the fence about buying a basic UPS Surge Protector with battery backup, I recommend you give this simple model a try. ... show more

  • BACK-UP FOR MODEM AND ROUTER
Size: Standby Style: 6 Outlet (400VA)
Because of the change in climate, we expect to have more power outages as well as some random outages as a surprise from the power company. The fiber installer suggested to get a UPS to run the internet and the landline for a power outage (yes, we have a landline). There are choices to get a UPS dedicated to one device. I went checking and saw this Amazon 6 outlet Standby UPS to provide power to more than one device. Thinking outside of the "box", I got this to power not only the modem but also the router (left side plugs). The right plugs that are not UPS is powering a camera. The wattage use for the UPS connected side is @24w at 2.5A max. Since this will provide power during an outage, the landline will have connection as well as having internet available for the portable devices. I'm not intending to run anything else to the wattage use will be pretty small. We've had several power outages during earthquakes, storms and heat waves so the landline is handy when everything is down. Now that this is also powering the router, we'll still have wireless capability. This can also power up a phone charger for those extended outages. I don't know how long this will last using 24W but the capacity is much higher so hopefully it will last a few hours or more. CONS: unlike a video showing this UPS, there are no mounting holes. I originally wanted to mount this on the wall, but as it worked out the UPS can stand up on top of the meter with just enough space to have it up right. Also unlike the video, there is no simple slide out battery compartment to replace the battery. The back is one piece secured by screws. I did not take this apart to see if a battery can be changed since batteries do wear out. But I hope this can be accomplished rather than replacing the entire. unit. This unit charged for over a day and after unplugging it, the UPS did its job by supplying uninterrupted power to my devices. Our fiber company said that their lines all have battery back-up so we would be able to receive service during an outage. With the modem and routers working, our communications to the outside world will not be interrupted. Until the next earthquake, storm or heat wave occurs, I'm happy we're now fully prepared with the added ability to continue communications. Enjoy! ... show more

  • Keeps the internet UP when power surges or goes out momentarily
Size: Standby Style: 6 Outlet (400VA)
Keeps the internet UP when power surges or goes out momentarily. I work at home with a laptop connected to the telco ethernet or WIFI. The electric provider would sometimes dim the lights causing the modem to fail and restart. The Amazon Basics Standby UPS 400VA 255W Surge Protector Battery Power Backup has solved the problem of "dirty power" from the utility. I got the same unit for my father's house to solve the same utility problem he was having with his cable/internet -- thus saving me a trip to his house to reset his modem and tv/cable every time there was a power glitch. ... show more

Size: Standby Style: 6 Outlet (400VA)
Shortly after setting this up, we had a short power outage that started when I had my computer on. The computer and monitor were plugged into the battery side and stayed on without a flicker. I turned off the computer before long, so I didn't run the battery down completely. When the power came back on, I didn't have to do anything as I'd never turned the power off on the UPS. Everything worked fine. ... show more

  • Lifesaver in storms
Size: Standby Style: 6 Outlet (400VA)
This has been a lifesaver this summer. Several storms have hit and caused our power to flicker and sometimes go out completely. This no-frills UPS has been great at providing constant power for our networking hardware. The battery is good for about half an hour but that's plenty of time to shut down the hardware or, as I did in our last longer outage, plug it into the Jakery. I wish it was a little bigger so I could better utilize the outlets but it works fine for what it is. There are better products out there but this gets the job done and is a good value. ... show more

I bought the UPS400W to protect my computer only, but every time I render a simple image it beeps as if it can't handle the power demand. When I try to render a video it keeps beeping until the render is done. Keep in mind it's NOT REFUNDABLE. This is a product that you don't know you know you need it until you do and you won't know it works until you need it. A few days ago out of the blew we had a power outage. There was no bad weather in the area so I didn't have a need to shutdown before storms hit. I was working on Tax information for a client and poof the electricity went out. At first I wasn't sure what happened because my PC continued to work with no issues, not even a flicker. But when I noticed the overhead fan had stopped working I knew we lost power.
