Description

Ever since the first electric waffle maker was released a little over 100 years ago, waffles have been a staple at the breakfast table and it’s easy to see why. An electric waffle maker like this one, takes all the guesswork out of waffle making. You simply wait for it to heat up, turn the dial, then just wait for it to cook. The waffle maker beeps at each step to let you know when to pour the batter or when your waffle is ready to eat. A high-tech steam- release system wicks away excess moisture from the batter, so your waffles get crispy on the outside, but remain fluffy on the inside. Once you’re done, the nonstick surface is super easy to clean and since it’s so compact, it can store vertically.

  • Consistent results -- and fast too
I don't have much basis for comparison. My only other waffle maker cost $20, marked down to $10. It took a long time to heat up, the waffles were unevenly cooked, and there was no indicator to show that the waffles were ready -- you were supposed to watch to see that there was no steam coming out. In spite of these limitations, we decided we liked waffles enough, and made them often enough, to justify the extra expense of the All-Clad. This waffle maker overcomes the primary deficiencies of the first machine. It heats up quickly, makes waffles that are evenly cooked on both sides, and uniformly cooked across the surface. The waffles cook quickly, and there is a bell (or something) that rings when the waffle is ready. There is a dial that can be set to sound the alert based on your preference for lighter or darker. It has been completely reliable over about 8 months of moderate use. I have no idea what the inner workings are like, but the waffle iron is heavy and feels extremely solid. It has been easy to clean, with the usual caveats that it can't be immersed and I presume that eventually the non-stick coating will wear off. From my viewpoint there are two deficiencies, both fairly minor The alert to say that the waffles are ready is high pitched and soft. Since generally develop a high frequency hearing loss with age, many of us have to devote full attention to the waffle maker and can't have a radio in the background or carry on a conversation -- we have to listen for thge alarm. Also, although the waffle maker is designed so that the cord can be wound around the base during storage, there is no clip for the cord, so it may be necessary to resort to a twist closure or rubber band. Other than a waffle maker with a larger surface, or one of the waffle makers that can make two waffles at the same time, I suspect this is about as good as it gets. ... show more

  • Good quality and worth the $$
May 2020 update: Still going strong since July 2015. Love this waffle iron. Still works great. Consistent results. Only one problem is somehow the lid lock on the right side stopped working. It's only a problem when it's being stored, not used for cooking and to remedy the problem I place a kitchen washcloth between the plates. Not pretty but it's stored in the pantry. Today it "locked" as I forgot to put the cloth between the plates when I last used it and I could not get the lid opened. Almost ordered a new one. Lifting it up it fell open :-). So being cheap and wanting to use this until it dies I avoided buying a new one! Previous review when purchased originally: I bought this to replace a very old waffle maker and I wanted a good quality replacement. I am very pleased with the quality and performance of the All Clad Waffle maker. It's heavy duty, the waffle plates are excellent quality. The waffles release beautifully, no sticking. I found for me, comparing this to my older waffle iron, cooking the waffles on the higher temp (7) gave me the crisp texture we like. Regarding the locks on either side of the unit, I had no issues with those until more recent years (see update from May 2020). I did notice when using it the waffle iron does get hot on the top and sides (that is to be expected), those locks are also hot to the touch and I use a small pot holder. The unit cleans up easily. I am very happy with my purchase and think this will last many years. I highly recommend it. P.S. I bought this through Amazon deals to save a few bucks and the unit appeared brand new, only the box was banged up. Great buy.... ... show more

  • Makes waffles just like the ones mom made when I was a child in the 1940's.
For me Belgian waffles aren't fun, for eg; I soften the butter but it still ends up in just a few of the depressions and it takes more syrup than needed to evenly cover the waffle. As soon as the Al-Clad unit arrived it was plugged in and it didn't take long in heating to setting #5. No oil was placed on the irons which are non-stick. Pouring on 1/2 cup of waffle mix was ideal to avoid any spill over. After letting it spread just a little bit the top was closed. When the beep sounded and the top was opened there sat a perfect waffle. Gently lifting the waffle with a fork in its side and removing was easy. The exact process was used to make a total five waffles and each one was exactly the same. On the plate with the perfect amount of butter and syrup I was so pleased at finally tasting a real waffle again. If I was going to feed a number of people quickly then purchasing a second waffle maker wouldn't be out of the question. I like that it stands up vertical making it easier for storage in the cabinet. The extra waffles were placed in a plastic container for the refrigerator. The next morning about one minute in the toaster for each half, some butter and syrup then 15 seconds in the microwave and voilà my own waffle house. This was a good buy! ... show more

  • Maybe not a full 5 stars. Definitely close.
Have wanted a nicer standard waffle iron for 20 years or so. This is a good one. Found a good recipe and just using a mix is good too. Need to set iron on 7 (max) to get waffles that are done. Takes a long time to get hot and to cook a waffle. Definitely can eat a waffle during time it takes to bake the next. Waffles are smaller than a Waffle House waffle. I like the American standard waffle over most Belgium waffles. ... show more
