I read the negative reviews and must say some of these people are not mechanically inclined in anyway. I bought these bars and installation was a breeze and the holes lined up with no issue on my 2017 Jeep Compass. Mounting Brackets and Screws Mounting hardware shows directional arrows and says clearly on them which are for the front and which ones are for the rear. I mean you do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out, it is common sense. The screws are philips head which are okay, but I can see them stripping if you do not use the right size screwdriver head. I would use locktite to secure those screws in place. The cross bars: The cross bars come in two sizes, one longer than the other as required. You place the longer bar in front and the shorter bar in rear. It is so easy to install that I cannot believe people had an issue with this. If the bars are not lining up, get a measuring tape and measure the bars. The installation: Start on one side of the vehicle and install the front and rear mounting hardware. Do not tighten the screws all the way down as of yet. Wait for the end to unsure the bar and in place snuggly. Remove the hand tightening adjuster (Big black knob) on both units and insert the bars in place. Remember the front bar is longer than the rear one. Long in front, short in rear!!! Once the bars are inserted, reconnect the big black knob and screw, do not tighten them as of yet until the other side is done. Now go to the other side and repeat the process. Now tighten all the mounting bracket screws and use a fat head screwdriver since a smaller head one may strip the screws. Tighten the knobs on that side and repeat on the opposite side. Remember that the bars should be even on both sides, if they are overlapping for any reason on the opposite side and you can fit the bracket, switch the bars with the other one. In Conclusion: They fit perfectly on a 2017 Jeep compass with no issue at all for me. ... show more

I have a 2018' Jeep Compass Trailhawk.I purchased a set of factory crossbars at the dealer for $300.00.After putting together many pieces and installing them I had to remove and disassemble them to return them to the dealer.Starting around 37mph a shrill whistling sound began.As I increased speed the noise continued to get even louder and change tones. I found these on Amazon and decided to go for it.They were easy to install and I took them up to 80 mph and didn't here a sound.Remember the longer bar goes in the front and the shorter one in the rear with the thicker side toward the front of the vehicle.The stanchions are also marked {front and rear}.The only glitch was a small one.The rear assembly was still too long to drop in place right were it is bolted on.I had to put it in between the side rails a little more forward and then slide it back to meet with the mounting holes A little pressure was needed as it got near the holes .I couldn't be happier with them especially for that price and they even arrived three days ahead of schedule.Check out the pics,I hope you like them.I would recommend this product to everyone. ... show more

The racks were fairly easy to install. When I read the reviews I made a note of the possible issue regarding alignment. True enough, one of the screw holes just doesn't line up (see pic). I don't have the tools to do what one customer did to drill a matching hole, so I just flipped the rear rack and then the holes match. One thing I didn't really like is how the outside of the bases, the plastic part that comes down to the roof, can make actual contact with the roof (see pic). This should rest just above without making contact so it doesn't scratch up the paint job. I'll be sanding these down just a bit. As far as sound goes, it does create a little bit of sound that is mostly noticeable going above 40mph. I would describe it as something between hearing brand new tires with vent spews and having the windows slightly opened. Also to be noted, there is a definite increase in loudness with higher temperatures. I was driving at night at 60mph and temp around 75f with the sound emitted being fairly low. Then I drove at same speed, but at 90f temp and it was noticeably louder, even with more ambient being present from other cars. Overall though, the sound just fades into the background and is easy to ignore. ... show more

After having sent back one set and gone through numerous websites to try to find a set of roof cross bars for my new body style 2017 Jeep Compass, I was skeptical but needed the cross bars for an upcoming trip so gave it another try. First, these fit IF you put the end caps on correctly - instructions are a bit iffy but there are 2 end caps for the front and 2 for the back. There are also arrows that point toward the front - which can be confusing if you are looking to the arrows v. the words. Once I got past that nuance, finding the right set of bolt holes for the rear set is the next challenge...at least for my Jeep, I had to use the forward set of the rear bolt holes. Second, installation is SUPER easy. I checked the bolts a few times over the week following the install and found no changes from the install. Also, there was no significant road noise - even at 70-75 mph. Finally, coupled with a roof bag, my jeep can accommodate 5 people and their luggage! ... show more
