  • Reliable and Great product
This is a superb product. Solid construction, perfect fit. For my 2011 Chevrolet Suburban 5.3; the installation was simple, quick and neat. I was relieved in discovering the inset for the oem 'barb bracket', (keeps it, as factory, off upper radiator hose), is built in. All the clamps, breather hose, cool stickers, are included. I am a finicky DIY, even so, box to on the road: 40 minutes. Performance? Surprisingly effective. I have been tolerating the minor 'initial acceleration' hesitation since....2011. Gone now completely. Also, much relieved to discover zero change to engine/ interior noise, during normal use. Only when you 'get on it', then I am satisfied with a deep and pleasant tone; and smooth solid acceleration. Airaid has proven that our engines really are a vacuum; get that air straight in and out! I was a hold out until this product became legal in my state. Well worth the wait! Noteworthy: Amazon double boxed the unit. Arrived on time, (as usual), and perfectly intact. I am most sincere in this recommendation. ... show more

  • Don't know why I waited so long to buy it...
Do you need it? You probably don't, but you won't regret buying it. Fit almost perfectly on my 2007 Chevy Silverado LT (NBS) 4.8L engine. I already replaced the factory airbox with an Airaid system and installed a Poweraid throttle body spacer. The MIT installs easily and looks much cleaner than the bulky factory system. It installs easily and the only real problem is the radiator hoses don't line up quite right with the hole on the bottom of it. Not a major problem by any means. The MIT installs after the MAF sensor housing so it shouldn't interfere with its operation. Major noticeable differences are a more aggressive roar coming from the intake that's makes buying it worth buying alone. Also, there is a slight increase in power that's most noticeable when you first take off and it only takes the slightest movement of the accelerator to get it going. Things to remember: 1. The computer controls the butterfly in the throttle body, so your intake might be capable of sucking more are, but the computer will only let so much of it into the engine. 2. More airflow means more heat, so your engine will run a bit hotter and your exhaust will be hotter as well. An aftermarket intake is the cheapest way to burn up your O2 sensors. 3. It's pointless to have your engine suck more air if the exhaust system can't expel it fast enough. 4. The slight increase in horsepower will cause your transmission to drop gears at strange times until the computer gets used to a new shifting pattern. 5. If for any reason your engine throws a check engine code, the codes may need to be cleared from the ECM using a Tech II computer that is almost impossible to find outside of a GM service center and they'll charge you just over $100 to do it. That being said, it's not something that absolutely has to be done as the check engine light will clear itself eventually. 6. If you choose to clean your throttle body, you will get a high idle and GM will charge you the same $100+ to hook it up to their Tech II and put it into an idle relearn. Before taking it in and paying them that outrageous amount of money to do something that takes about five minutes, give it time. My truck did an idle relearn on it's own in a matter of a few days, give or take. ... show more

  • 2009 Suburban 5.3L w/ K&N filter ****helpful install tips
So listen up. I will tell you the truth about this. The good and the bad and how to avoid the bad. All of the poor reviews complain of the intake popping off. If people would take a step back and use their brains, they might notice (like I did) that the intake and intake parts are COATED in a manufacturing lubricant. Why might you ask? Purposely. While these parts are made, they are lubricated to allow for them to pop out of molds, like Pam spray. This leaves the product slippery and greasy. The manufacture likely does not remove the lubricant because it actually protects the plastic from drying out while it sits on the shelf, waiting to be sold. This same process is true for new tires. They look shinny and if you know anything about racing, they are slick until you burn off or shave off the lubricated rubber. So once you receive this. I would highly advise you to use alcohol to wipe down the intake ports and silicone couplers. This will remove the slickness that can result in the intake popping off. I would also use the alcohol around the truck's throttle body (TB) and clean off any debris. You can clean the inside of the TB behind the butterfly, but that is up to you. Don't get too much liquid down in the intake; it makes initial engine start difficult sometimes. So lets say you did all of the above and you STILL have the intake popping off. Well don't worry, I can help you out there. When you install, secure the filter head (where the MAF (mass air flow) is on the pipe end and slide it into place. I would not tighten the side where the pipe meets the humped coupler. Just leave it snug because you will make adjustments once the throttle body side is secured. Secure the TB side firmly. Go back and loosen the side where the pipe meets the MAF coupler. move the pipe side to side, freeing up any unnatural pulling tension from the TB. A lot of folks likely have this area tight before locking down on the TB side. This will prevent unwanted tension against the TB port end. You are all welcome. Now I can speak to the product quality and performance. Like others have said, this is a very nice piece for what you pay for. The OE intake looks very strange Airraid's design most certainly has advantages. My kit did not include clamps for the valve cover breather line. This may purposefully because the intake breather nipple is plastic. It can easily be damaged with a metal worm clamp. I used a zip tie to secure the breather line. Also, feel free to shorten the length of the breather line once you know how much you'll need. They give you way to much in my opinion. Said and done, the engine is no louder at idle and at normal driving. Under heavy load or WOT (wide open throttle) the truck emits a deep baritone intake noise. It sounds mean and boss. I like that I don't hear intake noise all the time but only when the engine is working hard. I am driving a family suburban, not a race car. Be advised, the truck will drive strangely (shifts may be delayed) because the MAF needs to re-learn the air fuel ratios to optimize combustion and transmission shift timing. After the truck learns, or you force teach it through tuning, it drives just fine. I paid this with the K&N filter just to have all my bases covered. Throttle response is sharpened like many others have said. This is due in part to the design itself. Its not necessarily more performance, but power earlier. This gets 4 starts because its a nice product and value but it isn't a game changer in my book. I purchased this for a long road trip I have planned in a couple weeks. I will report back later for those who want to know if this has ROI for mpg's. ... show more
