I just received this today and tested it out. Surprisingly it is very lightweight, weighing in at just under 4 pounds so it would not take a very heavy duty hook to hang it from. I thought there would be a fan inside that pushes the heat out but there is no fan. The heat just radiates down from the heater. There is no high, medium, or low setting but rather just on or off by pulling the cord. You do not have to hardwire it, there is a regular 110 amp plug at the end of the 6 foot cord that comes out of the top of the unit. It gets hot very quickly, the metal facing protects the heating coil that is housed inside a clear tube that I think is made of glass. I cannot get my finger inside the metal facing to touch the housing around the coil to feel it which is a good thing I guess to prevent causing a burn due to curiosity. It puts out a good amount of heat but for use outdoors, I think you would need to be fairly close to the heater to feel any benefit. It should however be a good option for heating a garage or small shop. My honest opinion is that this a good product but I think it is currently overpriced, especially with no fan to disperse the heat. ... show more

I've been looking for one of these for awhile but am unfortunately a little underwhelmed. I think you ultimately have to pay quite a bit more an outdoor heater that performs like it promises.... When I tested in our garage it did alright, but the only space that was really heated was within 4 feet of the unit (after 10 minutes the temp went up 4 degrees with sensor 4 ft under and 2 ft away from unit, another sensor placed 4 ft under and 6 ft away only read 1 degree higher, even after 30 min). I hung it outside on a cooler night, but with a slight breeze I could barely feel a difference at all unless I was sitting right underneath it. That being said, if you are sitting underneath it is definitely feels warm. I also wish the cord was longer, it's only around 5 ft, and you aren't supposed to plug into a power strip (long extension cords only), so there's inevitably a lot of extra cordage unless you happen to have an outlet very close to wear you want to hang it. Overall, if you're looking to heat a small porch or shed or something (keep in mind that the heating unit is supposed to be at least 6' from the ground and 1' away from the ceiling) this would probably do the trick, but if you actually want to heat anything larger or open in the outdoors it would probably need to be a larger investment. ... show more

I picked up this patio heater to hang in my garage above my workbench so I can extend my workshop time into the fall and start earlier in the spring. It isn’t warm enough that I can work out in the garage through the winter, but it does heat up pretty nicely to just take the edge off.
