The media could not be loaded. I purchased the 11-pound log splitter to easily split my annual deliveries of dried firewood. The construction of the splitter is solid and heavy, and it has no unfinished metal bits sticking out. The diameter of the opening for the logs is seven inches, which means each piece of wood should be around five inches or less to avoid getting stuck. That said, I did manage to get wood stuck a few times, and each time, clearing the jam was as simple as flipping the splitter over and backing out the wood. I tested the device on the grass with a four-pound sledgehammer, and I was able to split most logs within a few whacks. PLEASE NOTE: Your handheld device MUST be hefty; a standard hammer or two-pound sledgehammer won’t be enough to get the job done. I must admit, I was really surprised with this splitter. I expected it to be cheap and gimmicky, and likely useless, but it was none of these things, and it made my job much easier. I look forward to using it for many years to come. ... show more

Splitting logs for my fire pit has never been easier. This splitter combined with a deadblow hammer makes very short work of a wood stack. The first thing I did with this splitter was spend about 20 minutes putting a proper sharp edge onto it. The way it comes is with a very basic edge that was done with a flap disc and then painted over. Using a file and sharpening stones will supercharge this splitter. I mounted mine onto a piece of pressure treated wood. The bottom was not flat, so I had to shim it. The casting quality is average. I noticed some porosity in the casting. For what it is and the value it brings is unbeatable. I definitely recommend anyone to try one of these splitters if they haven't yet. ... show more
