These insoles are nice and thick, the wool is soft, and I found it suitably insulating! It is thick enough that it changes the fit of your shoe, but has worked well in some roomy sneakers and work boots of mine. If you wanted to use this insole plus thick socks, definitely size up your shoe, at least a full size if not 1.5 sizes. I've never tried other brands, so can't compare it to similar insoles. It is completely flat with no cushioning except the wool (which is plenty for me), and I was able to pair it with a small orthopedic insole, but that did tighten the fit of the shoe so I eventually removed the orthopedic insert. I live in a mild temperature climate, it doesn't snow here most winters, but I have Reynauds or something like it where my fingers and toes lose circulation with a quick change in temperature... I've had my toes go white after walking when it's 65F. I haven't tried it in snow, but it didn't overheat me during a late autumn heatwave with high temperatures. Wool insulates well for both hot and cold. It continues to keep my toes insulated and comfortable for a walk in 40F, and I expect to use them from autumn through spring.

So I ordered these for a pair of Ugh Slides that have been sliding off my feet, and they fit, but because they are open, walking makes the slide out. SOOOO, I live in FL Panhandle and love my casual Hey Dudes, without socks, but it gets chilly in winters. These fit very good. Hey Fides are size nine, inserts size nine. I took the inserts that come with them out. They fit with them, just a bit snug. Once these pack down a bit I will probably but those back in. Good quality and value.
