  • Expect hours of assembly
The instructions to assemble were clear; however, some parts did not fit together easily. For example, the axle had to be compressed to one side using a ratchet strap in order to get the holes in the wheel and the axle to align for a cotter pin to go through. One of the wheels was not working while trying to get the cotter pin in. I later discovered the wheel I was trying to get on had poorly aligned holes, and the other wheel went on much easier. If the axle is not far enough to one side to get the cotter pin to align, either have someone else push on the axle while you get the cotter pin in or do what I did and use a ratchet strap to force it over to align. The feather icon on the instructions means don’t tighten all the way yet, this will help assembly go faster. Bought this for applying Rapid Thaw de-icer to drive lanes on a commercial property where a salt spreader truck is not available. Planning on a crew member using this to put down 500-800 lbs of salt, 100 lbs at a time. Capacity says 130 lbs, but from my experience it’s good to only push spreaders like this to roughly 80% of full capacity. Will update once I run my first half ton of salt through it. ... show more

  • Flat tire on first use
The assembly was not easy. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete, and the parts come in a bag and not easily identifiable as some parts are the same, but slightly different sizes. One of the tires would not hold air on the first use. They did not come aired up. I put air in the tires when I assembled it, but I never noticed the flat tire until I put in 70 lbs of fertilizer a couple of weeks later. After removing 70lbs of fertilizer, I took the tire off the rim, which was very difficult, and the tube had a hole in it. I went to Tractor Supply and got a new tube and fixed the issue. For $200, I would have expected the tires to have air to prevent this issue. Replacing the tube took me about an hour, not counting the trip to Tractor Supply. I've only used it once, and the spreader does the job, but I'm not sold on it yet. Time will tell as I use it for salt this winter and lawn fertilizer next summer. I'm not a fan of the pneumatic tires. I would prefer to have Flat Free tires. The pictures are after I took 80% of the fertilizer out. ... show more

  • Don't bother with the deflector sheild for fertilizer.
Assembling the spreader was not difficult, the pneumatic wheels are a nice feature, my previous spreader with hard wheels would stop if you hit a rut, the pneumatic no issue. Just a couple of things to note - I used the deflector shield for small areas around a planter and on edges near hardscape, it did not not work as you can see in the photos, it left a abundance of fertilizer dead center and created a greener streak, maybe the shield is just for use with salt. The other issue we had was when we took the lever out of the off position we would have to manipulate it manually to get the spreader door to open, maybe this is a lubrication issue, I am going to check with them. Overall the spreader seems high quality and is easy to use with a couple of bags of fertilizer in it, if I figure out the spreader door not getting hung up it should work great. ... show more

  • Pro-Sumer Level Spreader
The is the perfect spreader for the serious lawn enthusiast. A huge step up from what you find at the big box stores without spending a fortune for a LESCO/Andersons. Same spreader but better value than the more popular 45-0462 as this one comes with the grate and cover. Stainless steel components as well since it is rated for salt. Spreads great, handles well, etc. especially when spreading a lot of material like lime or organics. I use the defector on the back to keep material out of my shoes. A few things to note: it's large and takes up a ton of room. They make a 110lb version that may be more suitable for some. A lot of assembly required. This is the price we pay for having such a large item shipped. Instructions we fine for me, but be prepared to spend time in assembling. Not ideal for spoon feeding. It has a wide gate, so when applying small applications of material, like urea, you really need to be careful with the settings. Just start on the small setting and increase if not enough product is flowing. Or continue using your small big box spreader for these tasks. ... show more

  • Great product and doesn’t bind when you oil necessary parts
So I just got this and used it on my 3/4 acres and it is fine. The photo is for all the reviews that say it binds up. You are supposed to spray the gearbox and wheels with a lithium grease for smooth travel. I think this is a great product that comes with all accessories and anyone that buys this should have some mechanical knowledge will be fine. ... show more

  • DONT
DONT buy unless you like putting things together how can one simple item have so many pieces.

  • The hopper cover is trash
The spreader itself is performing well, but this review is based on the plastic cover that keeps precipitation out of the spreader while you work. The cold weather + removal to refill hopper immediately led to multiple cracks in the plastic itself. It's disposable-level material and it doesn't live up to the reputation. It's not unreasonable to expect that piece to last more than 15-20 uses before succumbing to normal wear and tear. Send some replacements and improve the quality to match the rest of the machine. Will update this review when resolved. ... show more

  • Heavy duty spreader
Seems very sturdy. Assembling takes some time as it is hard to sort out the various nuts, washers, and assorted peices. It'd be easier to assemble if the parts were in a lettered carboard punchout. I recently put together a brinkley lawn roller where the parts were labeled in this fashion and it made the job a lot easier. Other than that, this unit looks heavy duty. Can't imagine a home owner needing more than this. I plan on using it for sand (topdressing putting green), fertilizer, and ice melt/rock salt in the winter. ... show more
