I needed an ice maker because I was buying bags of ice all Summer and it was getting expensive. After reading about nearly every one online, I settled on this one. It was great for the first month. It is fairly quiet and the ice is pretty good. Even though it doesn’t “store” ice, that was fine because I usually scooped it out regularly. To be clear, I ran it 24/7 and kept it full so I could have ice any time I wanted. Then the machine started making strange noises. The worst was a high pitched squeal that sounded like grinding gears. Since it was after the return period, I contacted the company. Over the next few months, they worked with me to discover the source of the noises and what to do about them. I sent them videos of the machine and tried to capture the start and end. I couldn’t always because I was also going through cancer diagnosis and treatment with my husband which added to my frustration. All through this their customer service representative worked with me and contacted me for updates on the machine. Eventually they offered me a replacement. I declined because I had stopped using it as often and it was running smoothly. I no longer run the machine 24/7, but when I do run it (about once a week, sometimes twice), I don’t have any problems with strange noises. This is a great little machine that doesn’t take up much counter space, is fairly quiet (I wouldn’t set it next to your bed, though), and does what it is advertised to do. The five stars is mainly for the great customer service experience. I would only give the machine itself four stars. The ice is good, but doesn’t get as hard as ice that comes out of your freezer, which means that it melts quicker. But, that also makes it great for making smoothies because it crushes well in a blender without destroying your blades.

The media could not be loaded. This ice maker works great and is super convenient for daily use. It makes ice quickly and quietly, perfect for home or office. The size is compact but the capacity is impressive. Easy to clean and operate—definitely a great value for the price. Highly recommended!

The media could not be loaded. We have used this ice machine for one week & this is now what it sounds like. It has no way to keep the ice cold so is constantly making ice with the water that melts. Only gave one star because it does make ice quickly but it’s so loud! Now, it is making this horrible sound. Junk

I purchased the large (e.g. "expensive") pearl countertop ice machines for our adult children and their family, and they all love it. I'm not a big ice fan but I despise my refrigerator ice dispenser. I didn't want to invest that much $$ for something I might only use occasionally so I purchased this smaller unit as a test. The size is good and fits easily on my countertop - color options are ugly (black) for my coastal kitchen but...the unit makes ice fast and the correct bubble-type -the problem is it melts almost on immediate contact of the ice bucket. The ice "bucket" is tiny and sits on top of the water in the unit. A little better engineering and this would not be an issue. The bucket holds approx 8 oz of ice so maybe one glass. The unit quickly replenishes but if you are serving 2, it doesn't work. The ice is swept into the bucket but b/c of the fast melting it gets stuck on top of the basket before it falls in and then shuts off b/c it registers as "full." I am constantly pushing down the ice to reset the machine. It is noisy for such a small unit that sits in an open kitchen; just the constant crashing of ice when it empties. Everything is plastic except the freezing parts...the unit doesn't stay cold enough once the ice is made so melting begins quickly. But, my biggest gripe is the LEDs - they are so bright, I have to unplug the unit each night or my house looks likes a green space ship is landing-it lights up the entire house. For a small condo, camper or dorm, this probably would work for occasional use (unplugging at night of course). If you are a true ice-lover, skip this one and go for the pearl.
