We bought these to fit on VW crossbars and carry 2 kayaks. The tethers failed at highway speeds resulting in 1 of the 2 kayaks flying off of the car and, thankfully, into the ditch versus the windshield of another car. We had to stop to tighten the straps multiple times and between the straps and the J bars, the remaining kayak still was not secure even with anchor tethers. Junk. Kayaks don’t fit snuggly and the straps are crap. An extremely stressful and potentially dangerous situation could’ve been avoided with a quality product. ... show more

Fairly easy to assemble, however I would recommend using pliers instead of the tiny wrench supplied. The directions were clear, but it was difficult to get the bolts in far enough so they wouldn’t spin when trying to tighten the nut. It took me about 20 minutes to assemble two of these. These do not seem to be any “less than” when compared to more expensive brands, I’m happy with the product I received for the amount I spent. **You must have cross bars on your cargo rack to be able to install these. After assembling this product, which itself was kind of a hassle, i mounted them on my racks and tightened them up as best as possible. During my trip to wisconsin in which i had my kayak mounted to the carriers. They came lose multiple times and moved and shifted. I made multiple stops to adjust the carriers and tighten them up but the continued to shift and come lose. I would only recommend these for short trips. ... show more

    • Assembly is time consuming and difficult

J hooks come broken down and it takes forever to assemble. Also the pipes got a little bent when they drilled the holes so you have to turn the bolts to get the threads past the tube walls. Not an easy installation onto the roof rack either. Now that they’re set up though they get the job done.

Took a 2+hr trip to the beach worked great. Total drive time with them installed and kayaks on was over 6 hrs. So far so good. They are a little sloppy on my yakamah round crossbars but they work just fine

Definitely not easy to assemble. Wrench 🔧 it came with will only tighten the regular nut. You have to have your own tool to tighten the anti loosening nut. You have to put the bars into the rubber base and put bars together, which is difficult because you have to manipulate the rubber base at the same time. Truly a task! ... show more
