  • banjo it self was good. everything else was mediocre.(EDIT ): the company has resolved the issue.
Size: Large Size
so far the banjo itself was very beautiful and seems to play nice. the first issue to come up was the 4th banjo string. it seemed to be overtight and when i tried to tune it, it snapped, there was no warning whatsoever. i did ended up using the extra 4 string that came with and did my best to restring it but since im new to this i dont think i did the best job. I will buying higher quality string from somewhere else the next issue is the banjo picks, they are simply too large and difficult to use. the thumb pick is probably the worst. it is solid steel and thick for it purposes and too large. i had to use pliers to bend it into a usable form. I will have to purchase newer picks from a different source. the third issue is the banjo sling as it is small and uncomfortable to wear and the rough fabric scratches the neck. very cheap and will need to be replaced. the fourth issue is the bag is cheap and sort of small for the banjo , the banjo will go in it simply too much a tight fit. i will keep since there no other bags that seemed reasonably priced. the banjo tuner is pretty nice that is a given, although the battery being included would've been nice. overall i wouldn't buy again and i would wish to return for my money but unfortunately this the only option i have to economically afford a banjo as i live in a rural area. EDIT: I was recently in contact with the company, and they have been really receptive and apologetic. for the poor quality of the first banjo. they have graciously sent me a replacement banjo and parts and by inspecting the strings it seems to be perfect order and not one was damaged nor snapped when i tried to tune. i must note that the new banjo sounds even better that the original one! the banjo picks are still awkward to use, however this new pair are more comfortable and more usable than the previous. i will keep them as trusty back up. the carrying bag seems better and the banjo can actually fit. although the banjo sling is still probably the worst part. its simply too rough on the neck but it will do the jobs as intended. all-in-all the folks from ADM really showed some high-quality service which is something i really value. I wouldn't mind doing more shopping with them in the future. ... show more

  • Great starter to see if banjo is for you
Size: Large Size
I didn’t know if I would like playing banjo, but I figured this wasn’t too pricey to give it a try. I now have a banjo teacher who says it was a fine choice. I may have to upgrade after a year, but having to spend $250-$600 for a starter banjo (with no other stuff) straight off would have scared me off. ... show more

  • Couple of issues a beginner needs to know about this banjo
Size: Large Size
For the price you can't be it as an absolute beginner banjo. Everything you need to start is included however, there are a 2 main issues discovered in the first couple of weeks of frustration and feeling I’ll never learn this. Keep in mind I have never played a stringed instrument. 1. STRINGS: The strings are at least of “medium” gauge which make it very hard to “fret” (push down) without really hurting your fingers as well as making it more difficult (frustrating) to learn as an absolute beginner. Its also near impossible to “slide” as a beginner with un-calloused fingertips. SOLUTION: In my research I believe that a “light” string is best for beginners, and it seems that a lot of pros use “light” also. You can buy a set of “light” strings ($6.00 for the full set) and easily enough re-string the banjo yourself…see YouTube. 2. PICKS: Terrible picks. Too pointy, poor design. Did NOT realize how important the picks would be, namely the thumb pick. Almost all banjo players use a plastic THUMB pick. Index and middle finger pick is to long and pointy too. 3. STRAP LOOPS: One of the strap loops kept bending and falling off until finally it totally came unscrewed and fell into the resonator of the banjo. It’s only 4 simple Phillips screws to remove the resonator, but still. After gong to a music store a banjo player just recommended clipping to the head anchors and that has worked very well. I will eventually buy a new strap since this one is very generic and probably not as comfortable as a quality strap would be. Overall, I recommend this for an absolute beginner. Fixing these 2 issues dramatically reduced my frustration and the feeling it was me when it was more so the strings and picks limiting my ability to learn better. Visit and purchase at your local music store as much as possible. They’ll have picks and strings too. They can also steer you to a local instructor if you so desire. I’m going into 3 weeks now and getting pretty good at the basics! Suggest YouTubing "30 Days of Banjo" by Eli Gilbert. ... show more

  • Beginner banjo
Size: Large Size
The banjo arrived on time with minimum damage to the packaging. After removing all of the protective wrapping I noticed one of the hold down clamps was missing. The clamp was found in the box and the nut to the bolt was wedged under the clamp holding the strings down. Also there was no battery in the box with the tuner. Since I had one on hand I installed that one. Overall the banjo is nice looking and I think I have it tuned correctly. I have never played any instrument before and am looking forward to learning on this banjo. ... show more

  • Great Product for the price
Size: Large Size
Not having played the banjo for almost ten years, I was pleasantly surprised that I did not have to breake the bank for this banjo. Just like with any instrument that is not commonly played, banjos are often a bit more expensive then more commonly played instruments. I was a bit worried, but for the price I went for it. Totally surprised by the quality of the instrument and its playability. It has added a great sound to recent jam sessions that I have been a part of. Very Happy customer. ... show more
