    • Close to perfect for very oily skin
I have been using this product for 2 years. I have very oily skin and had to blot several times a day. The situation was even worse in high humidity (regardless of whether it was warm or cold). I have been looking for a product to reduce shine and the amount of oil exacerbating my acne. Previously I tried the Becca Ever Matte primer, which worked for only a couple of hours (excessively drying out my skin) before the oil and shine came back in an extreme way. With Shine Stopper, I found that it doesn’t excessively dry my skin and it lasts for many hours. It doesn’t prevent all shine from returning, but in low humidity I find that I can typically blot just once in the middle of the day - with much more effectiveness - and that’s enough to be shine-free for the rest of the day. In higher humidity maybe I have to blot twice. Remember that this is for someone with extremely oily skin, so if you’re not as oily I assume you’d blot less or not at all. It is important to dab this product on the skin rather than rubbing it in. Just keep dabbing all over and be sure to dab more in the oiliest areas. You can apply it under or on top of makeup, moisturizers, etc. Reapplication with the Becca primer typically ruined my makeup, so this is a real plus with the Paula’s Choice product. I also experience no irritation around the eyes with this product. I often wear it with no makeup at all and I highly recommend it to others with oily skin. Two thumbs up! ... show more

    • Didn’t work for my oily skin
Paula’s Choice Primer for oily skin wasn’t in Amazon’s top 100 list for foundations & primers but me being me I’m always looking for the next best thing. The brand is reputable & has a nice product line. I use their exfoliating liquid. I went with this primer on a whim despite it being higher priced vs. other primers with very high # of 5 star reviews. I had my hopes. Unfortunately this was a no go for me. I learned don’t RUB into skin, DAB it. I dabbed & for the 1st hour it kept my oil at bay but by 9:00 that morning my pores were filled with oil. Oil was showing through my powder foundation I apply. Such a bummer. It’s white based & does show some white residue after the dabs. I wouldn’t say it was moisturizing as it absorbed immediately into my skin. There is no scent. My oil is in my T zone. After researching & trying many primers I’ve accepted I’m sticking with Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later. It’s half the price of this & I need to settle for it even though it’s not 100% perfect but I’m lowering my expectation. This is my personal experience & I don’t recommend it. I have oily skin and need to wear a mask all day work. The shine stopper has helped control the oily areas under the mask. The exposed areas of my face are not shiny but not too matte either.

This product is just mediocre. It does take away some shine but it doesn't give a mattified look.. I still have to use another product to achieve a full matte appearance

I had very limited faith in this product when my friend suggested it to me, mostly because I’ve tried so many products that failed me. But let me just tell you.. Paula did what she had to do because BAYBEEEE this stuff is incredible. I have oily skin and when I put this on my skin is not oily ALL DAY!!!! Take my word for it. Wow!!! Greatest invention since the beauty blender!! I have dry SENSITIVE skin but still want a matte finish on my oily t zone— powder looks cakey on me and mattifying primers are always so harsh, smell like alcohol, break me out or wear weird under makeup. This is PERFECT. Feels creamy+nourishing, love that it goes on after foundation because you can touch up throughout the day. Paula’s choice continues to impress me. A tad pricey but you get a lot!! So it really is worth it. I Wear this over the andalou cc cream, and Clinique concealer (still looking for a great concealer but alas) - looks so natural - def recommend for sensitive acne-prone skin, haven’t had a breakout in ages w this routine ... show more
