Didn't ship with ropes or stakes as advertised. I got 4 poles and 2 bags. They are completely useless without the paracord.

I've used trekking poles and canoe paddles to suspend tarps at camp sites before. This set of poles is purpose built for the task, and better in every way than jury rigged poles or paddles. Still, the space and weight issue is real... I got these through Amazon's Vine program which gives products to reviewers in return for their review. I don't know if I would have bought these on my own. We're taking four granchildren under the age of 10 to the BWCA this summer, and if it rains, these poles would come in very handy in helping us keep dry around the campfire. But they also take up space. So I'm thinking I will try to take them, especially because we're going to set up a base camp--an ideal situation for using a tarp. But the extra weight and space requirements may not allow us to do so. These are nicely designed for holding up a tarp. The included "Lightning Protection Cap" is a joke in terms of lightning protection, but as a means of using the poles on the interior of a tarp as kind of a center pole to allow rain to slough off, it's pretty good. The rounded ball keeps the pole from damaging the tarp. The poles hold securely extended. The rubber feet work to keep the pole in position. So I like these. They're fairly expensive for what they are, but they're also quite useful if you want to do a tarp covering but lack available trees or posts for hanging the tarp from.
