    • Great lamp, Ikea upgrade

I purchased this lamp to replace an old Ikea Orgel lamp that I had been using for ambient lighting on my desk. The Ikea lamp was cheap and held up great for years and I wanted to finally buy a matching pair. Unfortunately, as with most Ikea products the lamp was discontinued and replaced with a more inferior version. The new version has an in-line switch which is inconvenient and inefficient when the cord is behind a table/desk and not within reach and is also all around smaller and lighter. I found this lamp and the look is so similar that I decided to buy it as a replacement. PROS: -The lamp is well made and the base is nice and weighty, not as heavy as a metal base but sturdy enough. -The paper shade is strong and stiff, large, and has a excellent height for such a tall lamp. It has a pull switch which is convenient and allows you to hide the wire completely behind a table. -It's very easy to assemble and comes with instructions though really none is necessary. -The pole is a thick strong steel (?) piece. -The shade had no underlying odor, which I sometimes find to be a problem with paper shades. CONS: -With tax, this lamp comes to about $40 some odd dollars. Not very expensive but if you're not set on a paper shade look then you can find better priced and better built alternatives. -The wooden ball at the end of the chain and the wooden base are two completely different finishes. -Finally, the most disappointing thing: the wooden base is completely unfinished. I expected it to at least be treated or have some kind of poly but it's like they just put a piece of unfinished wood from Micheal's and called it a day. It looks nice don't get me wrong but I accidentally spilled ice tea while cleaning up my desk and the base soaked up the liquid both from the top and bottom. I now have a large dark tea stain on the base. I'll be stopping by Homedepot to get some dark walnut stain to cover it up and some poly to seal it but just thought it's important to be aware before you order that you might have to do extra work to give the lamp a more finished look. ... show more

    • Simple and Beautiful with a couple minor annoyances

I ordered 2 of the table lamps for our bedroom side tables and love the look. As others have mentioned, the color given off by the shade is very warm and pleasant. With a 60W LED bulb installed the quality of the light never felt overly bright or harsh. The paper shade ships collapsed like an accordion but because the horizontal "pleats" are fairly random it doesn't collapse well and ends up with many diagonal creases. I suspect these might become less noticeable over time as the shade is under a fair amount of tension when it's installed but it is worth mentioning. As far as annoyances, when I installed the shade it was very obviously rotated relative to the base such that the sides of the shades were not parallel with the sides of the base. Since both the shade and base are square, any rotation in the shade mounting is very noticeable and in my case I'd estimate that the shade was off by as much as 20 degrees. The problem is easy enough to fix; simply loosen the nut that secures the metal tube to the wooden base and rotate it until the side of the shade's sides are parallel to the base's sides and re-tighten the nut. One other item that could be improved upon are the feet on the bottom of the wooden base. These are made of felt-like material and are too slippery to prevent the lamp from skating on the table top with the slightest touch. ... show more

    • Decent lamp, TERRIBLE packaging, quality control issues

I actually liked this floor lamp. I wanted to get two Magnarps from IKEA, but they are not available in the US anymore (still being sold in UK). These Adesso lamps where the closest I could find to the Magnarp in the same price range. The aren't super polished, but they still look fine and do a good job overall. That being said, packaging is the WORST i've seen. Like ever. Putting the lamp together is not complicated, but getting the lamp out of the packaging is a pain. The packaging creates a monumental amount of waste (a mess of cardboard and polystyrene, covered up in plastic tape all over) . A complete shame from the packaging side. I didn't have the shade length problems other have mentioned, but I did have a different problem - the center column, which holds both the bulbs and the shade, ends up in a screw on cap on the top. This cap secures the shade in place. In my case, the cap was fused together with the column. In all likelihood, the cap was assembled while the paint was still fresh, making it impossible to loosen it up without damaging the pieces. I contacted Amazon, and they gave me just two options: Exchange or return (no need to repackage, thankfully). I'd prefer to simple get the two pieces with problems (end section of the center column and the cap). What a shame - it's a waste no matter how you look at it. ... show more

I really like these lamps. They add the perfect amount of light to my living room, they're sturdy, & great looking. Yes, the paper is very fragile, but if you patiently unfold them from the packaging & let them hang up for a bit, they're quite easy to stretch out to hook onto the base. I highly recommend spritzing them with water to (1) release the wrinkles from shipping & (2) reshape the paper to the ideal length. You can also turn the lamp so the lit bulbs inside give off more, or less, light. Great purchase. ... show more

This looks great lit or not (using 40w equivalent 2700K LEDs). Mine came with obvious manufacturing defect of the shade but it is in the back.
