I'm a life long Abu Garcia user. I have 13 in total. This was purchased to be my new frog and top water reel. So far its been perfect. A great buy. The reel is smooth and the 30 pounds of drag comes in handy in the heavy pads. I would highly recommend.

I have three of these reels that I use for salt water fishing. I have caught striped bass up to 30 lbs, Mahi mahi up to 15 lbs and false albacore and Bonito. the reel has a great drag with and great line capacity. I use power pro maxquatro 30lb test that is the diameter of 20lb .This reel cast great and I have the model 40 and model 41 I find that the model 40 with the lower gear has more torque and if I had to choose one of the two I would definitely go with the lower gear model 40 ... show more

I own 2 of these reels now. It's silky smooth & casts a mile long. This is a premature review because (1) I have not landed a large enough fish to really test the strength or drag and (2) I have not broken it down to see what's involved with lubing & cleaning with annual PM

    • Avoid using near water.
It was a great reel until I set it in a rod holder on my kayak. Doing so was all it took to push the side plate release latch allowing the palm side plate to fall off into the St Clair river, never to be seen again. I have a few Abu reels, all of them share this design flaw. Abu customer service has been of little help. I do not recommend using these reels anywhere near water. ... show more

    • Watch out fornthe side cover locking lever

It's a very nice and strong reel right up until when mid cast the side palm cover pops off and sinks to the bottom of lake and spool almost follows it. Nothing better than paying good money for a reel then have it out of commission not even 30 days in. Hope abu helps out
