How can I decide if the Auto Cane will work with my vehicle? Before use, measure the U-shaped door striker to ensure that it is large enough to accommodate the metal tip of the Auto Cane. If your vehicle has a door striker bolt rather than a latch, the Auto Cane will not work with your vehicle. Do I need to modify my vehicle to use the Auto Cane? No, the Auto Cane simply slides into the door latch striker with no modification required. The Auto Cane can be used both parallel and perpendicular to the car. My elderly mom had begun having trouble getting in and out of our vehicles - just losing leg strength with age making it harder for her to situate herself when sitting down in a car or to get up and out when exiting. This support handle is a game changer. It coupled with a sturdy step stool have made entering and exiting my truck safer and far less painful. One downside to this particular car door assist handle, after using it a few times, it has started to shed its hand grip coating.

I wish it had a little more stability to it as it is a bit shaky when in the door well door latch thingy, but so far it is working as described. Provides a better place to grasp and push for support for seniors struggling to get out of the car. She seems to find it good to push down on while exiting. Helpful. (But I do think the design could include a little more stability, an anchor... it's simple and convenient right now to insert and use with no muss or fuss, but I really worry about it dislodging while in use, that would be disastrous.) ... show more
