  • Decent RAM for the price, not necessarily a "scam" (read on....)
Size: 8GB
note: This is in response to the other review titled "Scam Stick Sent" that was posted on August 20, 2021. I also bought the same RAM from Amazon and installed it in my laptop, only to see 5.9GB free/available for the system to use ...so why is the advertised/printed 8GB not being shown? What’s going on!?! If you look at one of the pictures that the other reviewer posted, specifically the one that shows the BIOS (i.e. shows that they have an Acer Aspire A515-43), you'll notice near the top that this laptop has an AMD Ryzen 3 in it. I don't have the same exact laptop as this other reviewer, but mine has an AMD Ryzen 3 in it as well. This is important to note because these AMD Ryzen 3 chips are actually APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) which in very basic terms combines the functions of the CPU and GPU on a single die. In other words, this APU also serves as the iGPU (integrated Graphics Processing Unit) for the system. The reason why we're seeing 5.9GB of available RAM is because a portion of the installed 8GB system memory has been allocated for the APU/iGPU to use since it doesn't have its own dedicated memory, a design called "shared graphics memory" (go ahead and Google it for more info). If you’re lucky, you might have a setting in your BIOS that allows you to adjust how much memory to allocate to the iGPU (though you won’t get the full 8GB back since the iGPU still needs some memory allocated/shared to it so it can function in the first place). Unfortunately, I did not have that setting in my BIOS so I ended up buying a 16GB RAM stick off Amazon from a different manufacturer (Team Group for the curious out there). To no surprise, the system reports only 13.9GB of memory being available! (This is plenty sufficient for my use case, though.) What’s more important after installing any new RAM in your system is to boot MemTest86 off of USB or CD and test your newly-installed memory for any errors. As of this writing, the current version of MemTest86 (from Passmark Software) runs 4 “passes” of tests on the RAM. If you can get through all passes with no errors, then it is safe to say that your RAM is stable. If not, then return/replace it right away with Amazon’s hassle-free return process. Even if you passed the return window, most manufacturers offer a “lifetime warranty” on their RAM so you’ll have to deal with them instead (and your mileage may vary in that regard). Oh yeah, there's a similar test program called MemTest86+ which is a fork of the one from Passmark. It's also great, but I don't use it because it's not being actively updated (the latest version is a beta from 12/4/2020). My motivation for writing this review is to clear up some confusion and dispel any worries because that other review may mislead others into thinking they’ve been “scammed” when that might not necessarily be the case. I’m not saying the other person didn’t get scammed, but it seems highly unlikely given the fact that A-Tech is a reputable company, Amazon is handling/fulfilling the order, and the white label on the package (as shown on the first image) acts as a tamper-proof seal so you’ll know right away if the package has been opened already. tl;dr If you have an AMD APU in your laptop, you won't get the full advertised 8GB available for your system because some of it is being shared/allocated to the APU. (If your BIOS has that particular setting available, then you can adjust that allocation amount). Also, run MemTest86 immediately to check your RAM for errors! ... show more

  • Works in a Synology DS220+
Size: 4GB
This memory works perfectly in my Synology DS220+. Installed, it shows up in the Info Center, and the device runs perfectly. No complaints about it and the price is about a 2/3rds lower than the Synology branded memory Recommend highly.

  • Scam Stick Sent
Size: 4GB
Description of images: First is how the product identifies to the bios and thus the OS; Second is how the product was labeled; Third is the back of the PCB showing that there are only 4 chips; Fourth is an image of the chips with all information; Fifth is the chip manufacturer spec on the particular part number. TL;DR: I received a scam stick of ram, Amazon refunded the cost. Do not suggest this product. I ordered this product to fill the second DIMM slot in my wife's laptop to give her a bit more wiggle room on RAM. I installed the stick, booted the computer, and found that windows thought it had 8GB but could only tell me the status(used/free/reserved/etc) of 5.9GB. This lead to me checking the bios reported size of the new stick(image 1). I then took a closer look at the PCB and noticed there were only 4 chips on the product(images 2&3). I then hunted down the part number of the chips(image 4) and found it in the manufacturer's documentation(image 5). This documentation shows that these chips were sold as a package totaling 8GB(512MB x 16chips). Since only 4 of these chips are on the PCB the total size is actually 2GB. If the ram had just been mislabeled I would be understanding that mistakes happen. The problem is that someone had to have the memory controller report that there were 4GB instead of 2GB. This shows a high potential of a scam having occurred as that kind of mistake is unreasonable to expect. ... show more

  • It’s RAM and it does what RAM does
Size: 8GB
Was easy to install but that’s more a plus for my laptop’s company(MSI). I am not a tech guy but it seems to work well and I haven’t had any issues. What’s really cool is it’s gardenia scented so when the fans on the laptop speed up it really makes the room smell quite lovely

  • Worth the purchase
Size: 16GB
After determining that upgrading the RAM (originally was 8 GB) was possible (to 32 GB) and seeing the video, I made the decision to upgrade RAM capacity. The cost was about what I thought and the video was easy and thorough, so I'm happy with the purchase.

  • Synology 920+ - It Works!
Size: 16GB
Synology ships with 4G - says it only supports up to 8G total. I installed this on my Synology 920+ / 2022 and it works fine. I run VMs from this NAS and so far so good. No issues.

  • Worked first try - no issues!
Size: 8GB
Installed the memory into my Lenovo laptop, hit the power button, and booted to Windows 10 start per normal. Double the RAM memory I had just minutes before. No post problems. No BIOS changes. Just super simple. For the price, and shipping speed - no brainer.
