When ordering ants you have to be home when they arrive (in hot months) so they are not cooking in the mailbox! About 1/4th were dead, however, I ordered two tubes full assuming they would not all make it. A piece of food was put into the tube for the ants to eat. If I could have scooped out the dead ants in the tubes I would have. As it were, they all went into the gel habitat leaving the ants to create a burial mound on top of the gel, not exactly what I want to look at each day, however, it is very interesting how they dealt with the mess! Day one they were in shock and bumping into each other, falling into the holes I created, rolling around. They would liven up everytime I moved the habitat to get a better look. Once they get acclimated I am sure they will expand the tunnels already started. If gifting I would recommend having the receiver of the gift order the ants in their own timeframe so that they can be home when they come. Otherwise, order them yourself, put the ants in the habitat then give that to the recipient.

The ants died within a couple of weeks. This Company refused to send more, even though I explained that we had done everything according to their directions. We certainly will not buy from them again. There are other suppliers whom we have used who are more reliable.

great buy! I had just got into farming ants and purchased from them and the ants were shipped and delivered quickly, of course as quick as one can do from the opposite sides of the country, Washington state, to New York State where I am. I did order two tubes of 25 ants in each and unfortunately again out of the sellers control be it they went through a hot state or were handled incorrectly by shippers or nature, one of the two tubes were dead but I emailed and within an hour had a response back from them saying they are shipping the replacement tube of ants, they arrived on time and not only did they replace the one tube of 25 but sent me two tubes of 25! they went above and beyond and my ants are thriving! great buy for kids who are interested in ants and ill say they are awesome to watch!

Many ants were dead when they were retrieved from our mailbox. We followed the instructions and placed all ants into their farm. Within in a couple days several more ants were dead. After a week only a few ants remained alive and at two weeks they were all dead. It did take a few days for them to arrive and maybe being in a small test tube bottle inside an envelope and sitting in who knows what kind of conditions may have been too much for them. It is possible that the days of transit could have been the problem. We will probably order again in the fall and see if we have better luck then since the temperatures will be better (summer heat in Texas is bad). While they were living they were very cool to watch and my grandson enjoyed watching them tunnel and move about.

Came in 2 tubes, 25 ants in each, in one shipment. 1 tube had 100% survival rate, while the other had about 45%. Not sure why the ratio was so different between the two. The weather did drop below the recommend shipping temperature, but the shipping time was MUCH longer than I anticipated for live ants. Also important to note, you do not get a queen and this company does not sell queens. Meaning, this colony has a limited lifespan and introducing a queen bought from another USDA certified seller has its challenges. This may be perfect for children who lose interest in a few months. Personally, I will be buying from another company after these little guys' lifespan comes to an end. One thing that could have become a problem if not noticed early was the tubes outside diameter is smaller than the hole to pot the ants in the ant farm I bought, enough so that all the ants would have happily crawled out rather than into the farm. A few wraps with electrical tape at the end of the tubes solved this easily, but still something to nota as this is the company amazon pairs as "frequently bought together". I guess that falls into the ease of assembly and design category for rating live ants, lol! Fun for kids and adults alike.

These ants are the hardiest I have ever bought. First of all they were delivered to the wrong address by our mail carrier, and had to wait a couple extra days to get to us. We are in Pennsylvania and I ordered the ants according to when the weather was suitable. The weather got a little colder than the ants like, but were still alive when they arrived! Of course a few died, but not too many. We put these in a gel farm and it turned out that the gel was too hard for the ants to dig through. We bought a sand ant farm but the trick was to transfer the ants to it! We had many mishaps and were chasing the ants all over the house! We got them all (I think) and didn’t get bitten. We got them in the new farm and now 4 months later they are still alive! They do not do anything but sit there and wait for food and water though. Perhaps they have figured out that there isn’t a queen? At this point the sand is very nasty and we want to replace it. We are not sure how to go about this just yet. I’ll have to research it. My 10 year old son is loving this. Thank you for a great batch of ants!

I have bought these on 2 separate occasions. We ordered 4 tubes both times. The first time all arrived dead, our weather was in the 70s the whole time of shipment except day of arrival it bounced to the 90s. Ordered again and over half arrived dead. We wont waste our money again on them. Followed instructions on cooling them before putting in farm and it did not help. They still managed to get all over. One bit me on the neck and was the worst pain I have ever felt. DO NOT LET THEM CRAWL ON YOU! Hours later the sting and burn was still very bad. We are on day 2 of them being in the ant farm and they have still not started digging their tunnels. They are fighting and killing each other off. We have less than 1/2 of one tube starting with alive and now less than 1/2 of those are alive. Total waste of money.

Bought 50 ants plus food. Probably 5-6 dead upon arrival but I figured that’s pretty good odds as it looked like they’d been squished in the tubes. However, we have only had them about 5 days and there is only about 5 left now. They have not stopped attacking eachother! I’ve kept their habitat watered and fed them every couple days as the instructions said but they’re pretty hostile. Luckily we saw a few tunnels get dug before fight club started but I really thought this would be a longer experience for the money. Update: My daughter got a bug-vac for her birthday and got a whole bunch of ants in our yard. I had already cleaned out our ant hill so today decided to fill it with dirt again from our yard this time- added the ants she caught. They have been digging tunnels like crazy. Don’t buy ants on Amazon guys, just go buy a bug vac and make your own ant hill it works just as good for way less money. (And so far they aren’t killing each other, makes me wonder if they sent me ants from different colonies. )
