When the children got this present, they were very pleased and excited to dig up all of the gems and see which ones they got. And kept them busy for a long period of time. But, keep in mind though, it gets very messy when younger children try to dig and play with this. But, we managed to just clean it all up by placing old newspapers under the area that they wanted to dig in. Overall, I think this was very engaging for the kids by keeping them occupied and searching for which gems they got. This kit was a lot of fun! I bought it for my nephew for one of our STEM nights. He absolutely loved every crystal/mineral he got out of it! The only problem was that two of the crystals were so fragile that they smashed apart while trying to dig them out. He even dipped his whole block into water so that he didn’t damage anything. I think this is a great kit for kids that want to learn about minerals/crystals! I do have the suggestion of maybe adding a little drawstring baggie to keep your minerals in! My nephew wants to do more of these now! **update** I had bought my nephew the birthstone kit for his second dig kit. He was super excited because there was a diamond inside! The gems you get out of the kit are fine. There wasn’t anything wrong with them other than a few have barely any color, so it was hard to tell a few gems apart, but that’s nature’s fault. The main issue was that I bought this to keep my nephew entertained for at least an hour (the other dig kit I bought him took 1 hour and 38 minutes to complete). However, this kit took about 10 minutes. All the gems were right on the surface bunched together. It took one scrape, and he found 5 gems. A few scrapes later, and he found the rest. He was really disappointed with how quick it was, and didn’t feel like it was a challenge at all. Our STEM day was kind of a fail.. ... show more

Very nice packing. A piece of cardboard was even placed on the top of the parcel to protect the box inside when it’s cut open. Frankly I just opened it for checking. The content seems good! A gemstone guidebook is included. However, it is a gift so it’s not used yet. I cannot comment more in depth but for me, I’m very satisfactory at this stage. ... show more

This kit was both fun and educational. It took us a couple hours to dig out the stones with 1 child digging. The gemstones are nice and you get 15 of them with a book telling you about each one.
