I got this on a deal so great value for the money for me. I think the National Geographic kits are great. The quality is decent. Sure, it’s messy but the kids enjoy looking for all the stones and fossils or whichever kit you bought. None of these kits some with large stones. You aren’t really buying it for that. This is more for the thrill of finding them. If you just want large stones it’s probably best to buy them separately or maybe a much more expensive kit may have them. My kids have done these and this one is a gift. My nephew loves looking for the stones and gems.

I got this for my son for Christmas and he loves it! We’ve gotten similar types in the past but we like these better. I was surprised how many rocks are actually in the clay, it was way more than I expected! We had a blast breaking it apart and finding all different types of stones, seemingly more than are listed! Great indoor or outdoor fun!

The kit comes with everything you need to dig up 15 real gemstones and crystals, offering hours of engaging, hands-on activity. The excitement of discovering each gem feels like a mini treasure hunt, and the included learning guide provides detailed information about each stone, making the experience both fun and educational. One thing to note is that the digging process can get a bit messy, so it’s best done on a surface you don’t mind cleaning (or a cardboards) . It’s also a bit challenging for younger children, requiring patience and some parental guidance to help with tools and techniques. I’ve done this with other kits before, and I love birthstones so I was super excited to finally buy this one. Well, I went through it, and one of the gems is missing. EDIT: I contacted the company that the listing leads you to, and not only did they send me a new kit for free, but I think they also included the gemstone I was missing from the previous kit, so that one will be a complete set! Happier than ever, I highly recommend this kit and company, they made me so happy!

We got this for a gift for our son’s 7th bday and he LOVED it! He got right into it and it kept him busy for a good hour or so. Every rock/gem he found was welcomed by a burst of excitement! It can get pretty messy so it’s a good outdoor project. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids under 4. The rocks can be kinda small and might need extra help from an adult or older kid. He did the shark tooth kit around Christmas time and he loved that as well. Super fun and recommend it to a friend.

The description in the detail states “kids will be thrilled”. My grandson was thrilled and super excited when “digging” into this kit. While some of the birthstones are tiny he still enjoyed seeing how different they looked when held up to the daylight which showed more detail and also when using the magnifying glass. An added bonus for him was the display bottle. We look forward to purchasing another style.
