    • Nice little etude-style book
The graduated levels are quite helpful in getting the sense of the piece, which is quite beautiful. However, this is not for the rank beginner. A basic understanding of music note reading is almost necessary. The first page, which shows the white keys on the piano and the treble and bass clefs, doesn't explain rests, sharps, and other musical notation in each of the progressively harder versions. But as an intermediate player who can read music, this book is helpful to me in acquiring muscle memory and proper fingering. One change I would recommend is to switch versions 3 and 4, as the hand falls more naturally into the triad (version 4) than playing a broken chord (version 3). Interestingly, Rolf Lovland, of the group Secret Garden, composed a piece called "Passacaglia" which is basically Handel's Passacaglia, except it is in 3/4 time instead of 4/4 time as Handel wrote it. Overall, I recommend this book, and hope to see more like it. ... show more
