One day, I noticed my 6 year old cat had basically fallen apart... once a fat but pretty cat, he had clumps of hair falling out and was starting to look like a skeleton. I took him to the vet, who told me he had diabetes. We had to start giving him insulin shots twice a day and she wanted him on specialty low carb food. Well.. the food prescribed was like $30 a can. Ouch. We have two other cats, and I could see spending a fortune on this low carb food for three cats because it wasn't like the other two would understand that the food was just for Brownie... Enter Google search. Cats aren't supposed to have carbs. Most dry cat food has carbs. My cats HATE wet food. My wallet hates wet food. I turn to Amazon to help. I read other people's reviews of this CRAVE grain free cat food. I think, what do I have to lose? Brownie is now a normal weight, all his hair has grown back, and he is a happy, purry, soft kitty warm kitty little ball of fur. My other cats? Samesies. But they weren't brought back from the brink of death, so I didn't notice as much in them. Was it the insulin that brought him back? Probably. But did the CRAVE help? Absolutely. What's the point of giving a diabetic cat insulin shots but filling him full of carbs? We continue to buy this food and have been for about a year now. I have no idea what the deal with this kibble is. My cats usually only go bonkers effing yonkers for the raw food I make, but we started giving them this to supplement a little and suddenly they're kibble addicts. They've learned how to open the cabinet we stored this in, dragged it out to bite open and dump on the floor for a feast. We started putting a rubber band around the handles to keep the cabinet closed, so they chewed them off. We started using strips of fabric to thoroughly tie the cabinet doors together. They ripped it apart. They ripped the bag apart some more. They didn't even act sorry. Eventually we just moved it to a room where the door is always closed. At first, they were confused; they opened the newly untied cabinet doors and started crying. They walked around, looking at me, like I might let them in on the trick and it would appear. This went on for TWO DAYS. I'm pretty sure if I try to switch to another food, they'll riot. ... show more

My cat is actually commanding me to write this review. She is a Princess of the highest feline order and finicky doesn't begin to describe her taste in food much less anything else! She loves this brand - as soon as I put it in the bowl she came running up with tail up all happy and crunched her way into a kitty food coma afterward. She's an adult indoor Ginger Tabby and I've tried every conceivable food. She likes very few. For whatever reasons, this was a hit, so it will be a regular on our shelves. ... show more

    • There were a lot of things I didn't know about cats, and this food helped fix that

Ingredients look solid; no recalls so far on this company (which is a thing you really have to watch out for, it turns out, even with the goody-two-shoes health-freak brands...they get these recalls, sometimes many of them, and you just keep feeding your cats and never know, because who signs up for #catfoodrecalls? Who subscribes to that subreddit? Is it on broadcast news? Probably not, if it's not Purina...so you really just want to look for a company that's been a business in awhile without screwing it up a time or ten). Our old food had been recommended by our previous vet, and endorsed by our current one, but there were those grievous aforementioned recalls that even the vets didn't know about. Our cats were always coughing up hairballs and puking and I'm ashamed to say that I always more or less assumed that's just what cats, as a species, do - like owls cough up owl pellets, cats puke everywhere constantly. But no. That's not healthy behavior, it turns out. I know because I started reading cat books, subscribing to cat sights, and really going full crazy cat lady on this whole pet owner thing. Then, lo and behold, I'd basically been poisoning them this whole time - at a premium! - with all the best intentions to feed them high quality, healthy food. So I switched over to this one, and almost instantaneously, their lifetime of puking stopped and their fur started to grow back, whereas before it had been a little patchy. I'm confessing this very shameful thing so bluntly so those of you who may have similar experiences can at least not live my mistakes & correct it for your poor kitties. Incidentally, we ran out of Crave, briefly, and switched them over to Grandma Mae's Country Naturals cat food, which is a good alternative & they've also had no problems with that. I also learned that feeding them more wet food is important, because cats never drink enough water, because in the wild, they get it in their bloody, meaty meals and in captivity, it's just cheap dry bikkies. So you have to subsidzie their lack of bloody meats with regular (daily, ideally) wet dins. ... show more
