This Opmind 5 in 1 STEM RC Robot Building Kit is exactly the sort of thing I wanted as a kid. We ordered it for a toy drive, and we hope someone will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. We haven't had the opportunity to try it out, but it looks good upon initial inspection.

This 3-in-1 RC Building Kit is an absolute winner in our house! With five different builds—each one named after a mythological powerhouse (Zeus, Poseidon, Hydra, etc.)—this set had my little one’s imagination running wild. It’s like a ticket to a mini-robot Olympics! Pros: -Versatile Builds: With options to create a robot, racing tank, and tracked car, this set goes well beyond a single play mode. You get five unique builds that keep things fresh and exciting. The creativity and problem-solving skills this kit encourages are a big plus. -Easy-to-Use Remote Control: The remote is super intuitive. It’s got all-direction control (including those awesome 360-degree spins), which keeps kids engaged and moving it around the room or outside. Plus, it has a solid range of over 20 meters, so there’s room to roam. -App Control with Fun Modes: The Bluetooth app has options for Driving, Path, Gravity, and even Programming modes! This is one of two Opmind kits I got to play with my godkids. Play might be a bit of a misstaement, though, since these really are great learning aids, and have already driven them both to want to learn more about robotics, explore the idea of microcontrollers, and ask for more. As mentioned in my review of the other kit, the build quality and capabilities of these is impressive. A massive set of steps forward from what i was expecting and the closest comparable thing available when I was a kid. The only thing to keep in mind is that you'll need a bit of table/desk space to really go to town on these. Don't buy them, for instance, to open up during a car trip or on a plane.

Got this for my son, who absolutely loves Lego and building sets and robots. I figured it was a no brainer for him to enjoy, and I was right. There was a little concern at times about fit, but he was able to get things working just fine. I think the "6 and up" age recommendation might be a little low, unless you're building it with your 6 year old. I'd say a kid aged 10 would be able to handle the kit with minimal supervision, though. MY favorite part of this is the programming mode. I've taught coding using Scratch before in elementary schools, and the interface definitely reminds me of Scratch (though horizontal rather than vertical, similar to what I used to use with Lego Mindstorms). My son enjoys it as well, but he's content to just use the remote control in the app. And that's really one of the best things about the set - it's flexible. YOU get to choose how you enjoy it and use it.

This 3-in-1 STEM robot kit is a fantastic project for kids and adults to tackle together or for kids to work on independently. It’s very engaging, but with so many pieces, younger kids may benefit from a bit of supervision. Once it’s fully assembled, the robot has some really cool features, especially with the app and remote control, making it interactive and fun to use. It’s a great way to spend time while encouraging creativity and problem-solving, and the end result is something kids can be proud of.

This kit says 6+ years, but I was a bit overwhelmed when I opened it up and saw what looks like a thousand tiny pieces inside. My 6 year old grandson wanted to open up all the little separate plastic bags to spread everything out, but I'm glad he got distracted first. He's a bright child, but no way will he be able to assemble this without a lot of help. I would recommend this set for kids of any age who are already into legos, and are motivated to tackle a new project. Note: this is NOT a lego brand toy, but is very similar, with instructions like lego kits - no words, just pictures that must be interpreted.
