I purchased the Cryptex Puzzle Pod to use as a container for the money we were giving to our neice and nephew for Christmas last year. I wanted them to have to work for the money! We created a little treasure hunt that gave them clues to spell out the code to open it and it took a good 45 minutes for them to get their money out. It was entertaining for all of us - and their parents thought it was the most fun present of the holiday! Now, using the Cryptex will be a birthday and holiday tradition. The Puzzle Pod was easy to use and easy to program. Though it's all plastic, the quality is good. It's sturdily built and I have no concerns for breakage.

This Puzzle Pod Cryptex-Brain Teaser & Coin Bank was a big hit with my husband when trying to figure out what 5 letter combination I had personally entered so as he could get the gift I had placed inside. This by far was one of the best & exciting ways to give a gift. Now we use it as a coin bank. However we can use it again if we decide to place another gift inside & can easily change the combination with a new 5 letter word. It can be used over & over again & the combination can be changed each time. The directions were easy to follow in changing the combination & putting the puzzle back together. There are many choices of puzzle type gift giving items on the market but I highly recommend purchasing this one! I felt like I received two items instead of one since this can also be used as a coin bank. ENJOY!

This is a very cool and fun way to gift something, as it makes for a bit of a challenge to whoever receives it. Almost like making them work a little before getting their gift. I wasn't expecting amazing quality, and I think you get what you pay for, hence I am only rating this item 4 stars. For what it is, the quality is not bad, however don't expect it to be even moderately secure. Sure it may deter the odd office colleague from stealing your favorite snack... but I wouldn't keep anything valuable inside (although I think that should be pretty obvious). My only real complaint would be that when entering the answer-code, it seems as though the device will open before the final letter (or final two letters) are entered. I think this is simply due to the interlocking “cogs” or whatever they are, not lining up perfectly, or being slightly loose as a whole. Not a big deal, and it may depend on the letter combination. But it seems with the pre-set password, I didn’t need the final letter to open the cryptex. Still, I think for the price, and understanding that this is just a novelty, it’s a pretty good/affordable reconstruction of a cryptex. And it absolutely adds another layer of fun to sending or receiving gifts!

Came across this to make giving my 17 year old nephew money for Christmas a little more fun. Looking at all of the different choices on Amazon, I’m really happy with this even though like some of the other reviews stated, it’s all plastic. Only gripe I have is when you finally do open it, the latches on the clear plastic piece stick and pull up some of the letters. Christmas was a lot of fun because I made a riddle scavenger hunt leading to the unlocking word that everyone participated in. Kids and adults alike will love this and found the final riddle difficult (try to solve it below). “When I take five and add six, I get eleven. But when I take six and add seven, I get one. What am I?” For the answer to the riddle, look at the first letter of each sentence in my review above.

I got this to challenge my cousins on Christmas. They loved the little get-the-ring-off type puzzles I gave them a few years ago, so I decided to try this. I thought up a word, then gave them clues for each letter and the word as a whole, but not in order and with no directions. They figured it out in about half an hour, but with about 7 or so people working on it at once. They all LOVED it! I put some candy and some directions on where to find their gift inside. They are looking forward to resetting it for future use. I didn't have any quality issues mentioned in previous reviews. But you have to be a little realistic too. This is priced, and built, like an entrainment piece. Would I like one made of metal and precision ball bearings? Sure! But I don't think I'd want to pay for that. Half the fun is in the hunt. All the parts worked as designed and looked decent. The opening is a little narrow, but will fit a gift card. I had no problem resetting the code word following the directions. If you take some time to make the puzzle solving a challenge and fun for the recipient, this will be a huge hit! I could see someone being a little disappointed if they had to spend a lot of time trying to rotate the rings around guessing at the code word, but if you have most of the challenge in discovering clues and working the code out, then this serves as a fantastic centerpiece to the mystery.

This is an amazing product! I put together hunts for special occasions or birthdays to find the gift. I personally feel so much time and effort go into finding the perfect gift. I found it disappointing to have a person rip off the wrapping paper and give a quick 1/2 hearted thank you. With this product I am able to add it to the hunts that I plan and people have fun searching for clues to find the gift. It is fun for me the gift giver and a blast for the person getting the gift. I love that I am able to change the password so I will be able to use this product for years to come. Thank you!
