Our experience was that we all had fun in anticipation of my son opening this for his birthday. The smaller draw could host a tiny object, a ring or bit bigger, then the other draw at the end pops out with a little push inside, proceeding the smaller draw opening, and that is where I folded some money for his gift, but this would also be a great place for a note, saying what the gift is and to look under the plant, or under his pillow for the gift card... Having more fun with it. It is definitely not for gift cards, that is the only reason for a minus one star in the rating. I did buy a couple more of these, since I think my Dad and friend will love this challenge.

First, the product is advertised as featuring a hidden compartment in which one might place a "gift card"--this is simply false--the larger of the two compartment is too small for any gift card that I have ever seen. It will however, hold cash. The bigger problem is that, first, when the box is new, it is very hard to open -- the drawer sticks so that even you know how to open it, considerable strength is required to pull it loose (doubtful that any child could do this) -- we wanted to give the boxes to six children, so we opened and closed each one five times to loosen them a bit -- that worked on three of them, but on the other three, the third or fourth time they were opened, the "door" to the compartment broke off when the drawer was pulled open, rendering the box useless.

I bought this for my 16 year old grandson as a different way to give him cash (which he requested) for Christmas. Although I finally figured out how it was supposed to open, my arthritic fingers had a hard time opening it…I’m creative though, I found “tools” to help lol. Small children would probably have trouble with it, it takes some finger strength. I got it open, put the money in and I hope he has the patience to figure it out. He’s a pretty smart cookie so I think it will be pretty short work for him. 😁 Enjoy.
