I assembled it, set the depth to a lighter setting for the first pass, then ran it across a section of the yard, and it immediately started pulling up a surprising amount of dead grass that I didn’t even realize was built up. I went over the lawn in sections, adjusting the depth slightly where needed, and the machine stayed easy to push without feeling too heavy or hard to control. Swapping between the dethatcher and scarifier functions didn’t take much effort, which made it easier to test both depending on the area. Bought this after noticing my grass wasn't greening up like it should this spring. Turns out I had about an inch of thatch buildup that was basically choking everything out. Looked at a few rental options but the math didn't make sense for multiple passes, so I went with this. The 16-inch width is legit. I've got about 4,000 square feet and finished in under two hours, which included stopping to empty the bag a bunch of times. The bag fills up faster than you'd think if your lawn is in rough shape like mine was. Motor didn't bog down even when I hit some thick patches near the fence line where I'd been lazy about raking leaves last fall. Switching between the scarifying and dethatching blades is actually tool-free like they say. Just flip the levers and swap them out. I started with the dethatcher blade set to the shallowest position to see what I was dealing with, then went deeper on the second pass. The depth adjustment clicks into place solidly enough that it doesn't drift while you're working.
