  • STURDY

i AM 84 YEARS OLD AND ASSEMBLED WITH VIDEO AND PAPER GRAPH. THE LONGEST TIME WAS PLACING THE BACK ONTO THE CHAIR. YOU CANNOT DO IT LAYING ON SIDE AS IT SHOWS. THE ARMS ARE TOO TIGHT, SO I THOUGH MAYBE I HAVE TO LOOSEN ARMS, BUT IT IS HEAVY AND TRYING TO ATTACH IT AND HOLD IT WAS TOO MUCH. SO MY HUSBAND CAME IN AND WE TURNED CHAIR UPRIGHT AND INSERTED BACK AND TRIED TO ALIGN THE HOLES. FINALLY BY SOME GRACE THEY WENT IN WITH MUCH STRUGGLE. THE PRODUCT IS GREAT AND NICE AND COMFORTABLE, HIGH ENOUGH, AND SO GLAD IT IS TOGETHER. Rolls fantastic on carpet and floor. Great chair . ... show more

  • Great Chair, great customer service and follow through.
Color: Brown
The chair came as advertised, was relatively easy to assemble, very comfortable. The problem is the lift mechanism does not work. I wrote the manufacturer asking for help on how to fix the lift mechanism, and not only immediately received the replacement part but also a complete set of illustrated instructions on how to fix the issue. I would highly recommend this chair to anyone interested. ... show more

  • Decent value - the review I wish I could have read.
Color: Brown
First off, I'm a big 6' 7" and ~340# dude - I'm going to write the kind of review I'd have wanted to see when buying. As of the time of writing, I've only had this chair a few days. (I'll try to update if something changes.) I don't always write reviews for products – only when I'm really pleased or really ticked off. I'd been looking for an office chair for my home office for a while now. Passively for months, actively in the last 3 weeks. Went to local stores (Staples, Office Depot) to sit on a few different chairs (really, everything they had on display that might have held my weight). Didn't want to spend ~$500 on a chair, but I absolutely would have for a good/solid enough chair. Given my weight/size, I obviously needed something in the "Big AND Tall" category. I honestly didn't like most chairs I sat on in-store. Too hard, too soft, didn't feel stable, tilted forward, or just didn't "feel right". I sat on a Serta i5000 Mid-Back Manager chair and really liked it, but it was out of stock everywhere AND I think it was only rated for 300#. I sat on some other Serta i5000 series chairs (higher back "Executive" style ones) and almost bought one that would have been very similar to this one – would have been ~$600 or more though. I looked at some "Shaquille O'neal" chairs in-store – those were some of the most disappointing, even though I had the most hope for them. They have the most similar look to this chair though and basically the same price point. I sat on all of them and almost immediately dismissed all of them. I mostly provide this information so you can perhaps judge if this chair would be the right one for you. I was fairly apprehensive over the idea of buying a chair on Amazon since I couldn't sit on it before hand. Read tons of reviews. (Normally I read the 'lowest' rating reviews first, since positive reviews rarely have much value – I want to know what will go wrong.) So many complaints about so many chairs. Maybe that's why I bought this one? Less than 50 reviews when I bought it. Amazon has a lot of different chairs with a lot of different "brands", but all of the off brands are clearly the same chair (they use the same pictures in most cases!) This one 'looked' a bit different and had all positive reviews at the time. Overall, I'm reasonably happy with this chair. Assembly: Packaging was well-done. Lots of wrapping/protection. Not excessively, but very adequate. Stuff wasn't just 'flopping around'. The packaging did a good job of demonstrating the quality of the chair that resulted. I'm pretty mechanically savvy. I'll admit, I don't 'read' the assembly manual normally. Good thing too – there's nothing to read in this chair's assembly instructions! It's all pictures. The pictures are plenty clear though – which is more than I can say for most Chinese-manufactured products(I'd normally say 'Chinese Junk', but this chair doesn't appear to be junk). I don't think anyone would have much trouble assembling this chair. It's fairly 'idiot-proof'. Maybe you could install the metal base to the bottom seat cushion backwards? If you pay attention to the instructions, you shouldn't. You could probably use the wrong screws in the wrong holes too (I did at first – didn't seem to actually matter though. I did fix my error though.) If you can't assemble this chair, you won't be capable of assembling *any* office chair. A few of the screws have threadlock compound on them – I wish they all had the threadlock on them, but… eh'. If you know what I'm talking about and have some handy, use it – probably not necessary though. (I didn't – might wish I did, in the future.) From a mechanical design perspective, I appreciated certain things about this chair – specifically that the cushions have collars that protrude from them and 'plug in' to the arm sides. The bolts just keep the arms from falling off – they aren't really having to do much. IMO, this is a smart mechanical design/lends to the strength/durability. The base w/ the wheels is substantial/nicely rounded. Wheels seem to be a good quality/work well. The gas piston is not very adjustable – it's a pretty short throw. Chair height is good for me though. My desk is not very high (29" to the top). My preference would have been for a screw-shaft piston instead of a gas piston, just for durability. I expect all pistons to fail in short order. My only concern about the overall construction of this chair is in regards to the arms. They're totally plastic. They flex a little. If something fails, I expect it will be the arms, which will entirely incapacitate the chair. That being said, I'm not too worried at the moment. They seem well-enough designed, and given the above part about the protruding collars from the cushions, I think they might last. The chair design seems like it was reasonably 'intelligent'. The plastic might last longer than a very-thin walled steel construction. The slight flexibility of the plastic makes me think they won't be as 'brittle' as a harder plastic – this gives me hope. Comfort: This is highly subjective, but I find the chair to be comfortable. Cushioning has a nice balance between firmness and softness – I mentioned the Serta i5000 so you can perhaps have something to compare to in a local store. Seat bottom doesn't tilt forward - definitely don't feel like I'll slide out of it. Seat back top is right at my shoulder blades – great for me. (Tops of my shoulders are above the back of the seat by 2-3".) I am tall though – preferences vary. Chair is reasonably 'solid'. There's some flex side-to-side, but it doesn't feel cheap, and is better than many much more expensive chairs. Most chairs I've sat in, are not quite as solid. (I am a very big guy though.) The only chairs I've been in that are MORE solid, are ones without tilting functions that use screw-pistons for height adjustment and are designed for 500# probably. Chair rolls/turns VERY easily. (I'm on a large-format tiled floor, but I'm sure it would be fine on carpet too.) There's a strange little dial to adjust some lumbar support. It's nothing too fancy, just adds some low-mid-back support. I've mine cranked to the max and it's nice. The chair bottom and back are attached by the rigid arm, so when you recline, the seat moves with. Personally, I like this. There's a tension adjuster for the recline function below the seat – I cannot reasonably reach it while sitting on the chair. It also doesn't provide as much tension as I might like – but, to be fair, no chair ever does. There's NO instructions on the adjustments to the chair. You just have to figure it out yourself. At first, I was cringing at just how easily it reclined. Tightened the tension to the max – that's "OK" now. Then, suddenly, it wouldn't recline at all! Turns out that the lever used to raise/lower the chair can also LOCK the chair in the upright position. After a bit of frustration on trying to figure this out, I rather like the functionality. There's some laughably bad little icons on the lever. But, I like that I can lock the chair upright if desired – and it's a very solid mechanical lock, so I doubt it would break (I've had that function break on other commercial chairs.) The degree of reclining tilt is a subjective preference, but this one is pretty good for me. Not really a take-a-nap level of recline, but a level of recline that works well while I'm using my computer – maybe a tiny bit more than I'd prefer. Doesn't give me the feeling that I'm going to fall backwards. I generally work 8-12 hours. This chair has been good for the last couple of 8-hour days. Better than many other office chairs I've had in that respect. Appearance: This wasn't really something I care about, but the chair DOES look really good. Looks a LOT better than basically every chair I saw in-store. I expect – like most chairs made of this material – it'll probably break down over time. Most in-store chairs were showing cracks/wear on this kind of material. I don't care much as long as it retains it's functionality. If it develops significant wear within a year, I'll try to update the review. Durability: I get the feeling it will last for a reasonably long period of time. As indicated above, I'm betting the arms might break eventually. Gas piston – may fail someday too. Material is what it is. I expect it will last for a long time, but I'll be happy enough if I get a solid 2 years out of it. (2 years isn't meant to be a commentary on the chair, just what I want for a bare-minimum w/ the given price point.) The chair is fairly simple and well designed, so I'm pretty hopeful. (Again, will try to update review if I experience and unpleasant surprises.) End summary: Comfortable for a truly big guy. I'll believe the potential 400# limit. Quality seems reasonable and perhaps decidedly better than some much more expensive chairs. Assembly is probably easier than average, in my opinion. Explanation of adjustments is non-existent - There's no real words/manual included. Beware that the height lever is used to lock out the tilt functionality. Maybe the manufacturer will start cutting corners in the future, but the chair that I received, is at the high end of what I was hoping for. No missing parts, no damage. (I did buy it with a partial expectation of some disappointment. It exceeded my expectations in all the good ways.) I should have maybe given this review 5 stars, but a lack of adjustment instructions and not putting threadlock on all bolts keeps it from being a perfect 5. Small things, overall. All things remaining the same in the future, I'd certainly buy this chair again. At the $280 I paid, this chair seems to be a great value. (I probably wouldn't have bought it for more than $300, without having been able to sit on it first.) If this chair was in a retail store and I could have sat on it first, I'd have probably paid 2x as much and been "OK" with that (especially considering the other in-store offerings.) ... show more

  • You won't find a better chair for the money!
Color: Black
Firstly I'm 6'5" and 205 lbs. After trying everything pretty much in a 100 mile radius and not being able to afford anything I liked I took a chance and ordered this. Glad I did! The seat height on the lowest setting is perfect for my liking and the seat back goes about 2" past my shoulders which is as good as can be expected from any chair including big and tall ones. Assembly was super simple and took about 25 minutes, that was with the little ones excitedly running around jumping, poking and and grabbing everything. I felt confident in tightening the bolts down without them stripping which is more unusual than you'd think - for any product. As for the metal base mine had no burrs and was smooth to the touch but I can see how smacking it with your ankle would hurt as it is metal. Overall the quality exceeded my expectations. The plastic molding on the arm rests is very high quality and the leather is PU so will last much longer than bonded leather. For me the seat seems a little on the firm side but it feels much better than my last chair. Be careful when looking for similar chairs, there are about a dozen that seem just like this but most use bonded leather and most don't come with the roller blade wheels. I didn't see it listed but the hydraulic lift cylinder is labeled as a class 4. For reference my last chair was a Staples Lockland Big and Tall chair was not as high quality feeling as this and succumbed to the dreaded bonded leather peel. ... show more

  • Good product
Color: Black
I first want to say I seldom write reviews, I was becoming frustrated searching reviews for hours for a good office chair. I finally found this chair and I have to honestly say all the reviews you read here about this chair are the most accurate. If you want a firm ,good seat cushion chair this is the chair for you. The chair reclines back, has good metal sturdy leg base, wheels roll with ease on low pile carpet in my office. Assembly of chair took me about 35 mins but I was taking my time and assemble it late at night , probably can do it in 20 mins, very easy instructions. ... show more

  • Felt like something was poking me in the middle of my back
Color: Brown
The construction on this chair is nice, with a solid metal base and really nice casters. The chair is nice and plush, and the seat itself is nice. However, the back of the chair felt like like something was poking me right in my back on my spine. It was becoming more uncomfortable over time. It was above the lumbar support, so I know it was not that. It's possible I got a defective chair. Either way, after battling with it for a few weeks, I returned it. ... show more
