This is a sturdy machine. It is fast and quiet. I must admit I was taken aback by the size. I read the product details prior to making my decision to purchase this item. I am aware of what 9 inches by 9 inches look like. However, when I first saw the machine in person, I chuckled at how compact this is. Although this machine doesn't come with spools of thread, it is pre-threaded to test it's functionality. I watched a few videos on YouTube for suggestions on how to thread the serger. I was fortunate to find a video that instructed me to use the tie-off/tying on method. You simple cut the existing thread at the thread pole and tie it to the new thread (the color you which to change to). Carefully pull the thread through (avoiding the tension knobs). The holes for the upper and lower loop needles are large enough for you to pull the knotted thread through. But the left and right needle holes (3 and 4) are not large enough for the knotted thread to pass through them. You simply cut the thread just before the knot and thread each needle and that's it! Quick and easy! I have compared this serger to others in the same price range or slightly higher. They all function pretty much the same. I was able to apply tension settings from another serger to this one. Which leads me to one of my suggestions for this item. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. It's a great price. But I am currently searching for graded thread tension knobs. This will assist me in identifying what tension settings I'm using for each needle/thread. If you take some time to learn about the serger prior to using it, you will find it a breeze to sew with. I came across a thread tension diagram that helps you recognize which thread needs to be loosened or tightened so that you get the results you desire. I have found it a challenge to adjust the width of the cut edge. The instruction book indicates that there is a screw that attached to the foot, but my machine doesn't have that screw. I've tried to adjust the position of the blades/cutters but I am not able to see a difference in the amount of fabric cut from the edge. I'm excited about using this machine!
