The camera system is so much better than the systems I have had in the past. Easy to set up, great picture clarity, and a LOT of options in the programming to be able to tweak the system to my liking. A little after 2 months of use, the system suddenly "lost" the hard drive. I tried reseating the cables to the main board, and it still did not pick it up. I swapped in an old drive I had and the system saw it and formated it with no problem. I contacted the Customer Support folks and explained what had happened, and they had me go through a couple of steps to troubleshoot the issue. After a few days (back and forth over email, with a major time difference to deal with) they agreed that the drive was dead. They sent a link to their preferred drive and had me purchase it through Amazon, and immediately sent me the total price as a refund.

This system replaced my aging wired system that lost all but 2 of its 8 cameras due to connection problems over the years. This system was installed less than a week ago so while I can’t speak of durability I can say it was very easy to set up and the picture quality is great. Night vision is also quite good. Playback features are also very good with up to 8x fast forward speed. Cameras appear to be robustly built and should last quite a while. So far so good!

I’ve owned several camera systems over the years, and unfortunately, this has been the most disappointing. After just one year, the hard drive stopped recording, and now, less than six months later, it has stopped working again. For a product that costs $450, I expected significantly better reliability. I would strongly encourage buyers to do some research and purchase a different brand.

The system was pretty easy to install and the videos look great! The only downside is that the instructions that came with the unit are kinda vague when it came to the initial set up. The instructions did not include the factory default password that is needed in order to set the thing up so I had to spend almost an hour guessing possible passwords. Finally I found that 6 spaces did the trick and then it’s as simple as follow the instructions but if your not a techie don’t get to caught up into the bells and whistles just do the basics and you’ll be fine. Love it!!! Oh yeah I also tried to contact support for help with the password issue but since they’re half way around the world I had to wait until the next day for a response as they do not have 24 hour support I guess.

This is my second Smonet security system and the camera quality is great. Setup and install was easy. I had an issue with email alerts but tech support ccontacted me andgot me squared away within 12hrs. I only view it on my phone or tablet so the Internet Explorer browser requirement wasn't an issue for me but may be for those using a PC so I didn't knock off any points for that. I wouldn't recommend this system for folks who are going to use it strictly on a PC until they support other browsers. Update - after testing I found that Chrome can connect and view video with limited functionality after setting chrome://flags/#Block insecure private network requests to "disabled".

The system works great for home use and business use the picture is relatively clear night vision works good the setup is actually pretty easy as comes hardcoded out the box ips are non standard in the 172. Range so it is a issue if you plan to connect to camera remotely directly it's not for you the way you do it is connect remotely to the nvr system that the cameras are connected to on the computer I use VMS app there are others if you know what you are doing and setup a DNS forwarder like noip.com etc through nvr or a router /VPN downsides the picture quality could be better and hardware zoom or tracking but the program does have software zoom . This is perfect for home monitoring etc as well aswatching out for family members that may need assistance and are not able to help etc by remote viewing without a subscription cost etc. CompTIA A+Certified I.T Technician , EMS VOLUNTEER , AMATEUR Radio Operator. It works fine as DVR in an isolated private network without DHCP server, except cameras suddenly lose signal time to time, but what is worse, the hard drive after 3 months of the service started screaming, and today disappeared from the system. It reappeared after reboot, but still makes squeaky sound. I would give it four stars, if not a defective hard drive installed. Added October 5: I decided to use a reliable 4 TB SSD instead of the same cheap 3 TB Seagate hard drive that failed. It runs smoothly and quietly, less heat dissipation. Adding more stars, since the system overall is good and satisfies my requirements. Replaced storage drive adds costs, but the end result worth it.
