I was surprised by how thin this was. It's got a rubbery feel, but clearly with some layer of fire-resistant cloth (maybe?) inside the rubber/plastic exterior. That being said, it did work in protecting my wooden patio from burns when using my solo stove. Although the info for solo stove says it's safe to have wood underneath (particularly if there is a mat), I was a bit concerned. I propped the stove up on flat patio stones on top of the mat (may have been overkill). I think though, that using it without the stones would have worked fine. This mat replaces the three bricks I was using underneath the fire pit to get it off of the wooden deck. But bricks didn’t help with any of the embers that would pop out and get on the deck. This mat is large and that it will help contain some of those embers and keep it from burning any spots in our deck. Very easy to set up and lightweight. ... show more
