  • Very good
The best I have purchased in this price range

  • Pretty good binoculars for the price
The media could not be loaded. These are pretty good optics for a low priced pair of binoculars. The image is bright from side to side in the eyepiece. It's easy to focus with a big center knob. I attached my cell phone to the lens and took an image of a tree about 50 yards away. What you see is the full frame, and then a tighter zoom within the phone. The rainbow ring on the wide frame photo is due to my phone. The binoculars focus through a central post that pushes both eyepieces out from the body. This means that the eyepieces can rock side to side a little bit. So be careful with putting too much pressure on the eyepieces over the long term, as that's an area that could be damaged by a fall. I took one star off for that. The storage bag is pretty cheap. The velcro wasn't centered and one side mostly tore off the first time I used it. Otherwise, I'm pretty content. ... show more

  • Suprisingly good and bad at the same time
If you are an outdoor enthusiast that likes to watch birds, stars, and perhaps your neighbors ;) you might be looking for a binocular. If you are on a very limited budget and manage to align this with the 50% off coupon, this might be something to consider but if not, you may find a better binocular for the price elsewhere. Right off, i'm giving this a 3 star vs 5 star review for 2 big reasons. First it claims a 30X magnification (the '30' in the 30x50 name is the magnification factor and the 50 is the aperture size, likely in mm) but I compared the zoom factor to my 8X42mm Meade CanyonView ED binoculars and my 10X42mm Orion Monoscope and the degree of magnification of these binoculars is less than 8X, perhaps 7.5X. And worse, the optical paths of this binocular are not parallel so one side would look at one object in the distance and the other side of the binocular would look at a different object. This renders the use of both sides of the binoculars simultaneously nearly impossible, and you have to look through one eyepiece at at time to not give yourself a massive headache. This might be due to the fact that the eye pieces wobble in their holder and move substantially, redirecting the optical path by a lot while viewing through them. Inexplicably, the eyepiece holder is made from a stiff plastic, which has a substantial ability to flex. It may be that this is to prevent breakage should this be dropped but it makes the optical path non-parallel and wobbly. The construction is nearly all plastic with areas of rubberized surface. While this might seem flimsy, its body is sturdy and looks like it could take being dropped from a moderate (3') height. Optically, its a bit of a mess. If you only use one side at a time, you can get nice zoomed (~7.5X) views but you will also have to put up with a pretty substantial amount of chromatic aberration that can cause the image to look blurry from all the color bloom around the zoomed in targets. But in fairness, its hard to expect coated lenses at this price. So you might think I absolutely hate this binocular based on the review. Well... yes and no. I don't think its right to deceive people into thinking this is a more powerful binocular than it is. Their claim of 30X is nowhere near being realized with this binocular's optics but rather 7.5X. The image you get is blurred by the intense chromatic aberration and the eye pieces are wobbly and perhaps why the optical paths are not parallel. But if you take into account that under the right circumstances you can get this sub $20, its a bit of a bargain. Why? Well... if you use only one optical path at a time (close one eye) and use it in a dual monocular mode, you have a handy viewing instrument that you can use to get a good impression of what is happening far away. Taking the possible sub $20 price into account (there are 50% off coupons for this), i'm not knocking the number of stars lower. If this were a $50 binocular I'd give this 1 star. Additionally, the bag for this is a thin fabric sack that has a velcro fastener. The later is not recommended for field carry as they will rip on the first thing they snag on. So if you have a young person in your life that understands that this is a cheap binocular and they know to use only one side at a time, they can get a lot of enjoyment out of it and if they break it, they likely will only break one side so they will still have the same level of functionality. It is a good low cost introduction for them into optics and they get to experience all the things that experts in optics complain about. ... show more

  • Clear vision and easy to focus
These are excellent binoculars. I live in the southwest where there is lots of sky. They are more than adequate for casual observation of celestial bodies, etc. I also used them recently to watch the eclipse of the moon. It was outstanding to watch in some close up detail as the shadow of the earth proceeded across the face of the moon. The only reason I did not give a 5-star rating is that the covers for the lenses are attached to the binoculars. Obviously for convenience and so they won't get lost. For me, I find that they are more of an inconvenience and in the way when I want to use them quickly...I have to arrange how the lens covers fall. However, that may be my own quirk. I recommend these binoculars. ... show more
