The look of the book is that of someone discovering someone's ancient journal. The leather is in great quality. Almost to good to be considered an old journal. Then you open it up and see the pages within it. They look like you would be afraid to try and use them. The paper is so soft it could probably rip easily. The pages are a little too worn in texture. Why did you pick this product vs others?: The look, I wanted to have a journal with hand written words and hand drawn pictures like an old wizards spell book. I love the design of this book. I specifically bought it because it looks magical. You can write in pencil, pen, and probably even ink/quill since the pages are very thick. The pages are also purposely non-uniform, so expect some weird edges and surfaces, and especially corners. The cover is a little thin for my taste, but i'm sure that can be fixed by adding a protective coating. The latch is also super cool, but you sometimes have to pull the latch away from the cover in order to close it. It doesn't affect anything. Very good value, very demure, very mindful ... show more

I was a little harsh in my choice of star a while ago. I put it at "poor" when in should really be "fair." I reviewed it that level because the book did not have as many pages advertised (190 instead of the advertised 240).
