  • Does not work with claimed devices and useless if it did.
For the life of me, I can’t figure out what this cable is actually for. It claims to work with the RS-80N3 shutter release, which does not have a 3.5mm jack. It also doesn’t work with my RST 7100 shutter release, which uses a TRS 2.5mm jack, which is standard to the industry. The CN3 connector does actually fit in my Canon 5D MK II (love that camera) but I can’t plug the 3.5mm plug into anything. I know I have a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, but why bother? The cord is stupid short, claims to be 100cm, but no way. Almost breaking the cord I can make it to 85cm, but that would of ripped out my camera or shutter release in an instant. Also claims to work with speed lights, three problems here, cord is too short to be useful, flash units do not have 3.5mm jacks that I know of, and three, anyone with a flash is just connecting through the hot shoe on top of the camera so you can use TTL. I can see where a 2.5mm version would be handy to have in my camera bag, but this is not. ... show more

  • Great remote cable (come with 3.5mm cord)
I've been making my living as a pro photographer for over 35 years. This is a capable cord for any Canon with the pro remote port. It is not as well-built as the original Canon (see photos: the canon has silver in the connector head) but it works well. Be aware that it has a 3.5mm cord connector - not the 2.5mm that most other similar cords have. This means it will work on most wired remotes. It is, however, perfect for me. I use canon 5D bodies for home-made trail cam setups and this cord is perfect for the TrailMaster sensors I use. I tested and it works beautifully. For the money, this is a good cord to use. I'm not sure how durable it is but it does not have the moving part of the original so it should last if not abused. I tried it on several different pro Canon bodies and it worked on every one. • NOT compatible with Canon EOS R100
I have been wanting to set up a physical remote shutter release for my Canon EOS R100. Unfortunately, despite the EOS R100 having a dedicated remote terminal, it is evidently not a 3.5mm port, therefore not compatible. The cord itself seems to be of good quality, but it is stiff even after stretching it out quite a lot, so there are honestly very few situations where it would be useful at all. If you can only feasibly stretch the cord to ~2' of length without pulling your camera over, why bother with a remote at all? I'm sure others have scenarios in mind, but even if it worked for my camera, I personally wouldn't find it useful. It's an $8 cord, so if you're desperate or you have a specific idea for such a short cable, it's not a total waste. ... show more

  • Works with my 50D
I had been looking for one of these cables for my 50D, since Canon had to invent their own connector to do what 3.5mm can do for triggering. Vine had one so I grabbed it. It worked for both focus and shutter release. Seems to be a decent cable. A little short, and the coils are stiff enough I wouldn't stretch it very far without worrying about pulling the camera over, but it will work for my purposes. $7 seems like a decent price for a cable like this. ... show more
