We bought this for a PCS move from Ft. Irwin,CA to JBER,AK. I knew we were going to pass through some fog/drizzle/rain in the PNW and we didn’t want our belongings to sit open in the elements in our roof basket. This cargo roof bag was perfect! Measurements were perfect to fit in our Rola roof basket. Since we were going to be staying at various hotels I bought a luggage lock just for “extra security”(even tho if thieves really wanted to they could just rip through material) but luckily nothing like that happened! We hit some drizzle Oregon and rain in Washington but our Bag did great and didn’t let a drop of it in. One thing we did about an hour or two into our initial drive was to tape the front part of our zipper flap so water wouldn’t go thru the zipper. Also taped the adjustment straps so they wouldn’t flap around. For that we used BrigadeQM 100mph duct tape, which did awesome! Space wise the bag hold a lot of stuff(pictured). I think I even had room for a small Tv(with original box) we kept after they took our home goods and for while we waited for them in our new house. I like the fact that it also comes with different mounting options. Like I could use it on our Tahoe that doesn’t have crossbars. If not mistaking(haven’t used it in a year or so) but I think it comes with the a blanket mat that lays under bag to protect vehicle paint and for bag to not slide around. All in all we were very satisfied with our product! Can’t wait to use it again and see what we can put inside this time and see how it holds up! ... show more

So, there are multiple products being sold under this listing depending on the size bag you are buying. This review is for the 20 cubic bag. Pics should give you an idea of what I did and what I transported. I like this bag but I took the advice of previous buyers and built a frame for the inside. The frame cost me about $30 in PVC parts and I simplified the height as opposed to another users approach. The frame provided rigidity for the straps. Some people mentioned the bag flew off. I believe them. I would not trust the straps that come on the bag to be my sole source for securing the items. The straps that come with the bag use a slip method that I am not comfortable with for speed and wind. I test ran it with just the bag straps and they came loose after 20 miles below 50mph driving. Instead, I used two Husky 1000lb tie down straps and secured the front and back, in addition to the given straps. Water Proof? Water did get in the bag but I believe it was from the zipper. I drove over 600 miles through multiple rain storms at an average speed of 80mph. Water got in the bag but perhaps it could've been avoided if I had turned the bag around. To be honest I didn't care. I had planned the trip so the bag would carry items that could get wet and that wouldn't ruin the trip should they fly off and get destroyed. I didn't want to lose them but I also wasn't willing to trust this untested bag with my vacation enjoyment. Overall, if you modify it, assume water will get in and buy additional straps the bag will perform just fine. ... show more

Great product. One downside is this item sits directly on top of your vehicle. This gives you a lot of wind resistance. I didn’t think it would make a lot of difference, but you could feel the resistance and you will definitely see it on your gas mileage. The hard type of these products let’s the wind go under and over it so the wind doesn’t have a big effect on it. But durability is outstanding and we went through many hard storms and it didn’t leak at all. Overall good product. ... show more

Moving the kid to college we had a ton of stuff to take. Filled the jeep, trailer and the rest went on top. 3 hour drive and didn't even know it was up there. Nice part is you can fold it down real small and store it without taking up much room. Material seemed really strong. Even drove through the rain and nothing got wet. Highly recommend. ... show more

We bought this last minute to take Christmas presents to our grandkids from Florida to Indiana. I miss judged the size of what could go in the car. We traveled two days making stops overnight twice. We went through part of the remnants of Hurricane ETA so lots of rain day one and two of our trip. The first day we had the zipper toward the front of the car. Dispite being rainproof some dampness did get in around the zipper but nothing really damaged beside cardboard around a toy. We chose to just take the whole bag off when we went into the hotel. It was pretty easy to just unhook and out onto a luggage cart. I’m sure the hotel thought we had a body in it. Second day we strapped it with the zipper in the back and that seemed to keep out the pouring rain. We again stopped overnight but this time just unzipped it and took out what was inside and then took off the bag and brought it all into our room. The next morning being pros at this point we had it all back on the car and strapped down in about 15 minutes. We did use the extra straps provided all hooked together to make a third tie down to go through the car. We did not have luggage wrack but this bag really worked well. I recommend this. ... show more

I took this on a cross country road trip. The Velcro covering the zipper should have been all the way around it instead of in just a few places. The wind blew up the areas that were not covered, Allowing rain water to get in. Not a lot, but enough to cause some annoyance. The canvas material also wore a hole in it from flapping against the straps. I had everything cinched down tightly. Maybe I should’ve gotten a hard cover for the 8000 mile round trip. Still, this product did its job and carried three suitcases. This product would be more suited for smaller trips. ... show more
