Bought these as they are rather indestructible for the kids and that they are said to be usable up to 1 mile within a neighborhood. Only downfall is that I could not get any communications through after about 300 yards with clear line of sight of the other person. So the range is limited.

Update: one year later, and two have difficulty charging, and the range is now less than a room's distance. I haven't contacted the company yet, though, so it's not a customer service issue. I'll update after I contact them. This is a cool set in that it comes with 3 units, so I can give one to each of my twins and keep one with me for when they are outside playing or walking to a friend's house. The sound is impressive, and the range seems to be good so far, but we haven't tested it fully. That being said, there are no instructions on the box (at least mine didn't have any), and it took me forever to figure out that the headphone jack was the charging port (perhaps it should have been obvious, because of the shape of the charger end, but I didn't even know aux ports could be used for charging, so I was looking for a separate port. So that one is possibly user error.). There are several buttons that I have no idea what they do, because, again, no instructions. These are things that might be obvious to people who have used walkies before, but my children and I had not, so it's pretty frustrating. One of the units was beeping all the time. ALL the time. Every 30 seconds or so, no joke. At first I thought it was because it needed charging, but no, it would beep fully charged too. We finally got it to stop after doing some internet searching and reading forum posts. Overall, I'd probably recommend them, but they might require a bit of patience at first. ... show more

Sound quality and transmit distance is great, generally. It gets some weird noise and/or interruption in populated area, it happened few times whenever I got in server room of my company. (I know it’s for kids. But company decided to make employees buy some equipments with their own money because “two way radios are stupid” sigh) Replaced the batteries came with with Amazon basic 2400mAh ones, which means total capacity jumped up to 7200mAh. 1000mAh original batteries lasted ‘bout 2 and a half days with mild use and without turning off. Not bad. Found a 5V power adapter with same plug laying around, detail’s written in Korean (or Chinese idk) but seems work. Setting preferences isn’t intuitive. I had to use try and error method to set it up. (Who reads the manual anyways lol I did at the end…) The only major flaw is VOX: basically you have to yell at it to trigger. Also the detection has half second delay so the very first word usually clipped. Normal use (near mouth) without pressing PTT button? Fine. But VOX as hands free? Nope. ... show more
