The material is an aluminum double bubble (similar to a bubble mailer). The material is somewhat stiff. There were 16 panels and two sheets of self-adhesive hook-and-loop circles. We used a rotary cutter and mat to get these to the appropriate size for our garage door panels. If this is an option for you, I HIGHLY recommend it. It made the process much faster, and the panels were a perfect fit. We did use a marker on each panel to ensure we didn’t mix any up. This made the installation a breeze. We used rubbing alcohol to clean both the spots on the garage door and the spots on the insulation before sticking on the hook-and-loop circles. We then pressed against each spot for a minute or two to help ensure good adhesion. Unfortunately, the adhesion failed within a few days. We decided to replace the included hook-and-loop with name-brand, self-adhesive squares. Again, the adhesion failed. Thankfully, the design of our garage means each insulation panel is tucked in and has stayed in place. I believe we’re going to leave it just as it is. Now, for the purpose of the whole process - heat reduction! We live in Florida, and our garage door receives direct sunlight all day. Before installing the panels, it was sweltering in our garage. Now, it is hot, but noticeably better. These panels aren’t going to make your garage feel the same as your air-conditioned house, but they will cut back on the intensity of heat. This should help with the wear and tear of our garage freezer and items stored in our garage. Even the heat when we get into our cars (which are parked in the garage) is noticeably better. *We did make one mistake when cutting… The row of panels on each side of our garage door is slightly larger than all the panels in the middle rows. One provided panel could make two small panels or one large and one small panel (not two large panels). We weren’t paying enough attention as we were cutting through the stack and cut one too many provided panels into small panels. In other words, we were short two large panels. Thankfully, we had enough scraps to tape three sections together and make one large panel (we used metal tape made for duct work so the heat wouldn’t be an issue over time). In other words, carefully plan out your cuts before getting started, and don’t lose track like we did. ... show more

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Love this! I live in Texas and it's just got...oh so hot. There's no getting around it. These help a bit to reduce my in garage temps. It's still going to be hot, there's no way to stop it, but you can reduce the temperature some. These definitely help to keep the temperature down. Using a thermal camera I can see a temperature difference of between 5-13 degrees depending on the time of day. I'm hoping it works as well in winter especially since the washer and dryer are located in the garage. They are super easy to install and very light. I didn't think they would work as well as some heavier duty options, but I'm happy to be proved wrong! ... show more

Cold or hot is just that, either cold or hot, these panels will do some insulation but not eliminate the swing of temps. My garage door is south facing so it get hot from all day sun. I had gotten these to help mitigate that heat in a closed garage. I know the garage will still get hot, but these will shorten the length of it being hot. You are paying for the convenience of these being cut into sheets and a sticky pad to adhere to the garage door. A roll that you cut yourself will do just as good for the described purpose. ... show more
