  • Great for what it is, but Modified Sine Wave inverters do have their limitations
Color: Red Size: 1500W
As electronics become more and more complex these types of inverters are going to continue to fall into lesser and lesser use. The reason is a little complicated, but it has to do with how extremely sensitive electronic devices see and use Alternating Current. In the U.S. that current produces a smoothly curving sine wave while alternating every 8 milliseconds. Certain types of electronics use this known timing event to kind of synchronize their operation, as in the case of some digital timing controls. Modified Sine Waves, as generated by this inverter, produce a much less smooth wave because they kind of pause when crossing zero on the O-scope, and then again at their peak and valley, and those pauses are not as exact or predictable, so they can mess with electronics that are trying to use them as a metronome. MSW inverters will run less sophisticated electrical devices like induction loads from electric motors on drills and saws and such, but they may encounter or cause problems when attempting to power sensitive electronics like laptops and laser printers, or heating devices like electric blankets or coffee makers. So okay for TV's, but maybe not such a good idea for that new digital camera. I'm neither an electrician nor an electronics technician, I just pretend to play one around my house, but I do try to listen to people like them so I don't blow anything up along the way. So far so good. I tried this out on 12 amp trim saw and it ran fine, but I'm a little leery of trying my 15 amp corded circular saw on an extension cord. And I don't know how sophisticated my cordless tool battery chargers are, but I tried a couple of them (an old 12 volt Bosch and an old Festool NiCad) and they too ran fine and without issue. The connecting cables are a reassuringly heavy gauge with good tight clamps, and everything was extremely easy to set up. The fan, when it did run, was way quieter than I previously experienced on an older similarly rated MSW inverter that's about six years old. Different electronics now I've no doubt, but the cooling efficiencies in particular seem to have improved pretty significantly, because this one doesn't get more than luke warm, and the older one used to get a little scary. The unit itself seems very sturdy and well built. I didn't open it up to inspect, but the alloy case is pretty substantial and I'm guessing plays a bigger roll in the passive cooling. The LCD display is pretty bright and easy to read, and the protections that are supposedly built in add a comfort level that my old unit did not, so that's a much appreciated improvement. Overall, for the range of function that this still provides, I think it's a pretty good value relative to its offering price, and the build quality seems to support the impression that it should hold up well for quite a while. ... show more

  • Great for a job site
Color: Red Size: 1500W
This inverter handled everything I threw at it; unfortunately I really don't have anything to throw at it that will test the 3000W claimed peak, but I tried a portable 10000BTU air conditioner, and then my garage refrigerator, and the inverter didn't complain. The fans came on, but no errors or warnings. The manual is full sized, and contains all the essential information. The cables...adequate, comes with a grounding wire. The battery terminals are in a vertical arrangement. One minor annoyance is the arrangement of the AC plugs, with the power switch and USB socket really too close, so any sort of large plug may interfere. The display is bright showing DC battery voltage and AC output, but no indication of wattage output. The case is metal and has a mounting plate built in - unfortunately oriented front and back. It really wasn't until I went to look at the AC waveform that I realized this was a modified sine wave inverter, and that's where I have to question the value proposition, because pure sine inverters have become more attainable, are you better off spending about the same for a lesser wattage unit that is purse sine? It all comes down to use case I think. What role are you asking it to fill? In my opinion, what this inverter would be really great for is a job site. You've got power tools, air compressors and such that are going to need the 3000W peak that this inverter can handle just fine, and those tools are not going to care one bit about a modified wave form. If you're looking to power an off grid cabin, boat or RV; where you're going to have computers, TVs or other sensitive electronics then maybe you look into a pure sine inverter. ... show more

  • Strong Performance for Tools and Backup Power
Color: Red Size: 1500W
The media could not be loaded. Strong Performance for Tools and Backup Power This inverter has been a solid performer in my testing. It delivers reliable 1500W output and had no problem powering a stand-up freezer and even running a circular saw without hesitation. It uses a modified sine wave, which is clearly stated in the description. That means it’s designed for general use rather than sensitive electronics, and in that role it does exactly what it should. For tools, basic appliances, and backup power, it works great. The unit feels sturdy and well-built, not cheap or flimsy. It also includes multiple safety protections like overload and overheat protection, which is important when pushing higher loads. The available AC outlets and USB ports make it versatile for different setups. Overall, this is a dependable inverter for everyday power needs, especially if you’re running tools or need a reliable backup option. ... show more
