Summary: I chose this product because in the Spring, I plan on starting an apiary. Beetles can be a huge issue for bee hives, and these have been recommended to help reduce beetle infestations. These seem to be easy to use, just pour a bit of oil in and install on your hives. Once full of hopefully dead beetles, discard, and replace. While these are too short to cover the length of the hive, and won't cover every opening, I would suggest using several per hive. The holes on top are small enough to let beetles in and keep your bees out. At $11.19 with the coupon, that makes these a great value! Pros: - Easy to use - Disposable, so no washing or cleaning to reuse - Great value with coupon - Helps protect the hive from beetle infestation Cons: - So far there are no negatives / cons. TIPS and TRICKS: You may need several of these per hive to be more effective.

This is my first year as a beekeeper, and I'm still trying to learn what are the best products for each one I need. I started this summer using the "reusable" small hive beetle traps - the ones where the top flips open and you add oil to one segment and a lure to the other. They caught plenty of SHBs, but they are a big pain in the butt. They wouldn't stay closed - I frequently spilled oil into the hive, and they were just more trouble than they were worth. I like these disposable traps much better. You just put them in between frames, and then add some oil. Then, in a week or so, just throw them away. They seem as effective as the other kind. These seem to be exactly the same as the ones I got from a local bee supply company, but less expensive. This box of 12 will probably get me through next summer with my 2 hives, if not I know where to very more.

Perfect frame top beetle hives. Fill with. Your preferred oil and the beetles will go in and stay. Once full of beetles you can simple toss out and replace. Beetle control is important as they spread diseases through the hive in addition to the damage the cause. Bees spend alot of energy corraling beetles then keeping them jailed. Using these beetle traps is a pests ide free measure that can help keep the colony strong and healthy and free up guard , wax, and cleanup bees for other work.

These disposable frame spacers do more than just keep your frames apart, they also act as bug traps if you fill them with oil. Simple to install and inspect, being made with clear plastic, these spacers/traps are an easy addition to your hive.
