  • Solid Build, Simple Controls, Good Magnifier -- Not really a "Microscope"
Color: Blue
First, the good stuff: This magnifier is very easy to use, works straight out of the box, Easy to charge on USB and does not require hundreds of batteries (Important factor for something to give to a kid). Simple controls, takes pictures. works with an SD card to store pictures, and has a very easy to view screen. The physical zoom is limited although there is a digital zoom that is the equivalent of the advertised magnification but not strictly speaking in a microscope sort of sense. For a youngster, however being able to easily enlarge the view of all sorts of everyday objects from table cloth pant leg random insects to even some of the details on a coin or the edge of a spoon It can be fascinating. As a child's toy it is one of the better versions of this sort of thing I have seen, does not have many external parts to get lost or break, and just needs a charging cable from time to time. (Others have controls that are too small, or require a lot of fiddling, or I screen at all and require a connection to a computer to see etc etc. This has none of those problems. The Less Good: It is a child's toy and is not strictly speaking something I would call a microscope but it is a significant magnification so that is perhaps to be forgiven. Also the magnification being significantly digital is not strictly speaking the Best way to Achieve it but it is typical for any electronic magnifier to digital magnification so it shouldn't be a shock. It is plastic, however it does feel like it's fairly sturdyly and the arrangement of the controls and such do not leave a lot of pieces that are easily damaged. The focus knob for example is integral to the main and is not a separate knob sticking out to get broken off the first time it's dropped. So plastic though it may be, It's well designed and pretty robust. All a good version of one of these sorts of things, And it will probably go to work in a middle school classroom as group magnifier rather than a, for projects where it is the right tool. ... show more

  • I wish I had one of these when I was a kid
Color: Blue
This is a very low price but completely functional digital microscope. It uses a lot of off-the-shelf components to give us what schools used to pay a huge amount of money for, and it does a great job of that. Without reading instructions, I figured it out in just a few minutes. Hold down power for a couple of seconds to turn on. Rotate the barrel on the side to focus. Left 2 buttons will zoom in and out (though it's digital magnification and introduces artifacts). The top left button, when held down for a second, cycles through 3 levels of brightness and light off. In the settings, there are a large number of things you can change, which are similar to a digital camera from 20 years ago. Including the "Bepp" sound. A package of dino stickers came in the box. I tried connecting to a Macbook pro with a basic usb-c cable. It appears to MacOS as "GENERAL - AUDIO" and works as a webcam. However, once connected, all buttons cease functioning, even power. I think it's intended to be controlled from the Mac, but no software is given for this. I went looking and found the product is actually Microlong/HVSCAM HM02. The common component they use is a Hayve HM020. Documentation says that in PC mode, the power and light control will still be usable, but with this device they are not. The seller helpfully confirmed that the best it can do is mounting the SD card on the Mac through the microscope's USB port. Looks like a dead end. If you want this feature, spend some real money, don't use a toy. It is not 1000x magnification. Online specs for the hardware say "up to 100X magnification" but that is with digital zoom, which does not actually cause the sensor to look closer. The 2 left buttons step through 5 levels of software zoom which probably take it from 10x to 100x. It often looks impressive on the tiny LCD screen. Again, if you want real optical zoom, spend real money. This is more than good enough for kids. Note that this device has no wireless capability: wifi, bluetooth, etc. You can get pictures off by way of the SD card (a cheap 32gb one is included). It can work as a camera but there is no optical zoom. Quality is pretty horrible even with no interpolation. It's similar to the pictures on old flip phones, back when you had to carry a separate dedicated digital camera around with you. While limited on the technical side, this product deserves top stars. ... show more

  • More features than needed but is a simple set up and easy to use.
Color: Blue
This is such a fun and easy way to get my 6 year old daughter interested in science!! Since we received this digital microscope we have looked at almost everything in the house magnetized and we have a collection of dead bugs we collected and have been looking at. This digital microscope has more features that I have figured out but the basics make it fun enough. It takes pictures so that is a fun feature that my daughter figured out on her own! We didn’t read the instructions booklet thoroughly yet but it’s easy enough to use. Holding down the power button, turned it on and then really if you little one is antsy and ready to look thats all you need to start. There is a focus spinner on the front side so whatever you are looking at when you turn the wheel the image will get crisper or fuzzy. There are buttons for zooming in and out. The settings button will send you down a rabbit hole of options and things you can change. There is also a SD card for saving the images you take pictures of, but to upload them onto a computer that would require more techiness than I have. Plus I’m not sure we need to save zoomed in images of the table or a bug wing. One downside is if your items you want to look at is too big to fit in the plastic circle, you have to hover over the item. This handheld digital microscope is definitely fun and easy to use for kids. It opens up a whole new world for them and I love how interested my daughter is to look at everything magnetized, this would have been so fun to have when I was a kid! ... show more

  • Great value
Color: Blue
This is a fun STEM toy, especially for roughly ages 6 to 12. The 2.4 inch IPS screen means a child can see what they're examining without looking through a tiny eyepiece. It also includes a 32GB SD card, takes 1080p photos or video, has a fairly large 2,000mAh rechargeable battery, and can connect to a computer. That's a pretty nice feature set for something a kid can carry outside to examine bugs, leaves, rocks, coins, hair, fabric, etc. It's better thought of as a powerful digital magnifier or nature exploration camera, not a laboratory microscope for viewing microorganisms or detailed cells. The 32GB card, bigger 2.4 inch screen and especially the 2,000mAh battery make this a solid choice for your little explorer. ... show more

  • So Much Fun to Use and the Images are Great!
Color: Blue
We did not have this little gadget out of the box for even one minute before we were playing with it and passing it around to try out. It is so fun to use and it is super easy to operate. This handheld digital microscope is made for kids, but adults can have just as much fun using it. It is built well and has an easy-to-hold design to it. The buttons are easy to press and simple to operate. You can take pictures or video, and you can also view the pics and vids that you've taken. You can zoom in or out and turn the fill light on or off. It charges up with a USB-C cable that is included. The first thing we tried with the handheld microscope was the back of our hands. So cool! Then we started pulling things from the table to view. You'd be surprised how cool a tablecloth looks under a microscope! Take it outside and you have a whole new world to explore. Try checking out a dead bug or a live one, if you can catch it. Blades of grass come alive in a whole new light when magnified. The handheld microscope comes with a memory card already inserted, so it is easy to transfer your images to a computer. It holds a lot of images and video. Overall, this handheld microscope is great fun to use and would be great for a classroom, too. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • My daughter’s dream came true!
Color: Blue
My daughter had been asking for a microscope like this for a long time, and we finally decided to get it for her. She is absolutely thrilled! Now she goes around the house and outside, examining literally everything: from houseplants and fabrics to tiny grains of sand. The 1000X magnification is incredible for a kids' gadget. She goes around the house and outside, zooming in on everything from houseplants and fabrics to tiny grains of sand and insects. The device feels sturdy and well-made. The plastic is high-quality, durable, and comfortable for small hands to hold. It also comes with a handy lanyard, so my daughter doesn't risk dropping it outside. This is a lifesaver for kids' eyes. The 2.4-inch screen is bright and clear, making it super easy for her to analyze details without straining her eyesight. It is very fun for every age. For just $39.99, you get a complete starter kit, including a 32GB SD card to save her high-resolution photos and videos. You truly get a lot of features for a very reasonable price. ... show more

  • Fun shared-screen bug scope — ignore the 1000X
Color: Blue
I gave this to my kids as a science toy, and the short version is that it's a fun screen magnifier, not a microscope. The 2.4" screen is the real reason to buy it. Nobody's fighting over an eyepiece — two of them can lean in on the same leaf or moth wing at once, and my youngest spent a weekend hauling in stuff from the yard to put under it. Ignore the 1000X. That number is digital interpolation, not glass, so cranking past the middle of the range just gets you a bigger, mushier picture. Low-to-mid zoom is where it holds focus and you actually see texture — fabric weave, salt grains, insect legs. Focusing is a manual twist and it's fiddly. The 5-year-old end of the age range will need an adult hand steadying it; my older kid had it figured out in an afternoon. The 32GB card was in the box and worked as-is, and pulling images off onto a laptop was uneventful. Battery gets a couple hours of on-and-off use before it needs a charge. Build is all light plastic. It's survived normal kid handling, but I wouldn't call it rugged. Worth the money as a curiosity toy. Not as an instrument. ... show more

  • Not just for kids, but for adults want to have fun too
Color: Blue
The optical and digital magnification are truly impressive. I tried it on a dried leaf I found along the trail, and the cellular structure popped into view with stunning clarity. The manual focus is incredibly precise, gliding smoothly to capture the smallest details, while the oversized dials make quick adjustments a breeze—perfect when working with something that might blow away. The anti-shake feature is a game changer, keeping everything steady even with hands a bit shaky from hiking. I could easily make out the delicate veins in the leaf and the fine dirt patterns clinging to it. This precision-built system rivals gear that costs much more, eliminating the hassle of chasing a clear image. The built-in lighting is another highlight, with adjustable LEDs offering multiple brightness levels—ideal for exploring under the shadow of big trees. The diffuser softens the light perfectly, bringing out textures without glare. I ended up examining bark, tiny stones, and insects in crisp detail, and the screen is such huge step up from traditional eyepieces, letting me see everything comfortably without eye strain. Great value for your money. Was going to gift it to a child, but I'm keeping this gem. ... show more
