The listing says for “complete blackout” you should mount them on the outside of the window. We initially bought. 27” but it let in a tiny bit of light on each side when mounted inside the window. We returned it and bought a 34” and mounted it on the outside of the frame but found that more light was getting into the room from the sides BEHIND the shade. I actually think the interior mount is as good as it gets. There will be about .5” on each side, but you won’t achieve complete blackout unless you find a way to tape them to the window. Still I’m happy with these. The room is A LOT darker at night and in the early morning. The quality of them seems good. The screws aren’t great, but those are easily replaced with better quality ones. I especially like the way the shade goes up. You pull it and it slowly moves upward and stops on its own. I’ll probably buy a few more of these for other roomsz ... show more

I bought this type of shade vs the accordion style because my cats kept trying to climb them and destroyed them. So far the have not tried to climb or move them to see out when closed. Happy with the quality for the price. Will be ordering three more for my bedroom.
