Very sturdy wire and have ran around 2 acres and worked perfect to send the signal to my dog's collar. Unfortunately my dog realized it can run up to the fence let it shock itself and after 20 or 30 minutes the collar will be dead and he can ignore the fence then. Damn dog

We have had in-ground fencing (SportDog 100) for about 3 years, and originally installed the basic wire that came with the kit. It worked great at keeping our dogs contained to our 5 acres, but after a while we started getting breaks. Lots and lots of breaks. And often we wouldn't realize it until the dogs got out and we got a call from our (very patient and kind) neighbor. So as big a pain as we knew it would be, it was time to replace it with something stronger. The price on this was awesome, and it shipped quickly (oh Amazon, how did we ever live without you?) The new wire took the better part of an afternoon to set up. We didn't bury most of it, just laid it along the ground and used lawn staples to hold it down. We buried the part that crossed the gravel driveway. Our acreage is surrounded by woods, so the underbrush grows over the wire and keeps it nicely in place. So far, so good! No more breaks, and dogs are safely contained. ... show more

    • Awesome Wire for Underground Fences, Although Thickness can Cause Problems.
This is awesome wire. It is single core (not stranded). It has a really thick exterior coating that will stand up to just about anything. It carries a signal so much better, I had to adjust the signal down on my underground dog fence after replacing the 16-gauge stranded wire with this - the signal stretched out an additional two feet. I have an acre and a quarter and it carries the signal all the way around with no issues. One drawback, however, is that, due to the increased thickness of the coating, the wire doesn't fit in a cut made into concrete or asphalt by a circular saw (using the thick special asphalt or concrete blades). The cuts have to be widened, which is a pain; however, the end result is well worth it. Chances of a break in the wire or corrosion are probably next to nil. Just make sure you use the silicon-filled splicing kit to weatherproof the exposed ends of the wire. Jim ... show more

The shipping was super fast and the thickness of the insulation is impressive to say the least. This is the 3rd time that I've rewired our 700' invisible fence in 10 years. I have to believe that this wire is going to last at least 10 years if not longer. Performance wise, I honestly believe that the solid core, heavy gauge wire is superior to the cheaper multi-strand wire that came with the fence kit (which I replaced at year 6 and again, now, after an additional 4 years). The boundary adjustment is much more sensitive and I am able to easily adjust the warning zone incrementally with this upgraded wire. ... show more

A bunch of the reviews said their spools arrived broken, or that they could easily break the wire with one hand. While I don't care for the lack of transparency by stating which size they ship, this is equivalent to the diameter that I had on my underground dog fence. I ziptied it to the fence instead of burying it. The spool came intact, and I don't believe I can break it with one hand, two hands sure, or perhaps if I tie it to something then pull,...but I digress. The first one came as advertised, and worked well, until my dog learned to break it. So I ordered one twice as long. We set it up as carefully as before, went to hook it up and,... Broken wire, dog hadn't yet been introduced, two hours setup time wasted. I highly recommend you find something thicker locally. Please don't waste your money here! ... show more

I placed an order for two rolls because we needed 2000ft, and received a single 2000ft spool which is even better! One less splice in the line required! The wire is top quality, works *great*. Makes the original 20-gauge wire look like the worthless junk it is! I have no concerns burying this line and being worried about finding partial breaks like I had to with the 20-gauge wire. Totally worth every penny unless you *like* fighting with broken wires. ... show more
