I hope this helps people who don't quite understand the ins and outs of power and wiring your subwoofer. So I have to question those that make claims about them not being powerful enough or they blew up relatively quick. I think this comes down to not understanding, 1. Your amplifier and RMS ratings 2. How wiring the sub to your amp can cause impedance mismatches. One reviewer said his sub wasn't loud enough. This makes me believe it's wired in series, producing 8 ohms. Another reviewer says their amplifier is 2 Ohms. Well... If it is a mono block, 2 Ohms is good. If it is a 2 channel you bridged down to one channel, a 2 Ohms stable amplifier seeing a subwoofer wired down to 2 Ohms will either fry the sub, or fry the amplifier. I've seen this fry a voice coil in the sub and destroy filtering circuits in an amp. In this situation what happens is both channels split the load. Meaning you are showing each channel 1 ohm. In this case you would just use 1 voice coil @ 4 Ohms. Always check the resistance at the terminals to determine if you are wired correctly. On to the build. These are nice looking entry level subwoofers. Magnet looks good as well. The surround could have been a bit bigger. But hey, less than 60 dollars, can't complain. The bucket is plastic, though it feels rigid enough. Nice spring clip terminals. Nothing fancy. Just a decent design. Power handling. Guys, never go off of max rating. Period. Go off the RMS numbers. If those aren't listed, I use a formula for estimating an RMS value. Multiply price by 5.5. this would tell me the sub is at roughly 150 watts combined Sound is good and got better with about 45 minutes breaking in. It is not hitting super low frequencies. But thats ok, it's just a 10" sub. This is a great bang for the buck. Sensitivity is 90db at 1 watt/1 meter. This is at a specific frequency, I'm thinking somewhere around 50-55hz. So the lower tones, around 35hz have about a 4 db roll-off. In a good box, these should hit about 40hz fairly clean. They do start breaking up around 170hz. So those that want to match at higher frequency's may be deterred from using this sub. ... show more

The shape of the speakers basket is slightly larger than most common speakers so you might have to modify the speaker cabinet hole. on the other hand it has great quality sound and is very loud. 10/10 would recommend.

Please do not buy this product save your money for something nicer. I purchased 2 of these knowing that they were cheep and I was only going to use them lightly. I hooked 2 of them up on a 600w dual amp (again cheep) then after breaking them in at about 100w each. Then I pushed them up to about 200w on each which was the max the amp was putting out. Then after 30 min of playing the first one blew and actually caught in fire. A week later of much lighter playing the second one blew. There return costs as much as the sub itself. im running a old fozgate punch 2 channel amp and im running 2 of these 10 inch subs on each channel and they sound better than the 2 10 inch kickers i got from best buy . Update, now im running two 12 skar subs with these and baught another 1 and i put it in my kicker box and hooked it to my old panasonic home theater surround system and it blew my mind how well it handles it especially going from probally a 100 watt 4 inch sub ( im not positive becuase i got only the amp off of ebay) i torture tested it and it got low enough I could see and hear my window vibrating. On another note some of you might asking why did i swap my 10 inch kicker for one of these pyle speakers, they are great for rap and techno but they sounded muddy and didn't get real loud and im not really into rap or techno and they sound bad with metal and was ok for country music. Personally I think these pyle have better sound quality than kickers do and are definitely louder. How they sound across the board: between rock,metal,country the bass sounds clear and growls at you. Rap depends on artist if your listening to coolio it depends on the song if its dmx they sound great with most of his songs i havent tried them with newer rappers. Techno/dubstep it really just depends on the song, i dont know if this counts as techno or not but songs like party rock anthem sound great with theses speakers My experience might be different my boxes are sealed and have no polyfill in it ... show more

Lasted 6 years so I would say it's a pretty good speaker. I thought it was blown but it's just a bad connection to the voice coil where the braided wire goes to the coil wire. Let's hope I get another six years now that I repaired it.

Bought two 10's and hooked up them up to a Pyle 1400 amp. I just wanted a little extra bass because the factory audio in my Mazda 3 lacks bass. This gave me that extra bass I needed and more. They sound good and clear on a factory stereo with a line out converter. Don't be dumb like me and punch 2 holes in a sub, I was using a drill to mount them on a custom enclosure, and the drill slipped and bam. Despite the holes they still sound great, and were inexpensive. I've never considered Pyle an elite brand name for audio, but there stuff is working great so far, especially for the price range. Do not be expecting JL Audio or Rockford Fosgate quality, they are not going to match up with these higher end brands, but I love these, there so inexpensive and work well if your looking for something to play but don't have wads of cash. ... show more

UPDATE! As several before me have had happen, the magnet and basket have separated. This is very disappointing because otherwise this seemed to be a quality unit. I caught it before any damage was done to the voice coils or any other sensitive component. I will update again once I figure out the return/exchange process and see how this is handled. I hope that there was just a bad batch of these because until failure it sounded great. Dropping to two starts for now. Very pleasantly surprised how good this sounds for the price. Speaker is well made with quality components. It reminds me of the old Rockford Fosgate speakers from a while back. Installed with the 2 voice coils wired in parallel to bring it to 2 ohms. Running on a small amp in a pre made box stuffed with polyfill. Box is .80 cubic feet which is a little too small for this speaker. Manufacturer recommends 1.0 cf. Does not seem to suffer for the lack of space though. For what these are running right now I may order a couple more just to keep on hand. ... show more
