    • Does a great job, but the instruction manual is confusing due to many translation errors

The charger itself is great, but the manual (which can be viewed on Amazon) has translation errors which make it difficult or in a few cases almost impossible to understand. The manual also shows incorrect icons for the charging modes; the actual ones also have text: STD, AGM/GEL, MOTORCYCLE, TKL (trickle), and REPAIR (de-sulfurization). The main thing is to make sure to select the correct battery type if it is not a full-size lead acid automotive battery, which is the default. Normal charging ("TKL") uses pulses, After each pulse, the charger checks the resting voltage, and will ultimately shut down and display "FUL" when charging is complete. When charging a car battery which is completely discharged, disconnect the negative lead of the battery from the car to prevent any possible damage to car electronics if the charger attempts to "de-vulcanize" the entire car. But if the battery has enough charge to light dashboard indicators or interior lights, it should be safe to charge in TKL mode without disconnecting the battery. I was able to charge a long-unused car battery using the Repair mode; it took a long time, but did ultimately charge the battery to about 12.6 volts. The Repair mode uses pulses of about 15.5 volts to remove sulfur buildup from the battery plates (the manual calls this "de-vulcanization"), then switches to normal charging with pulses at about 13.8 volts. The numeric display shows "dFS" during the sulfur removal stage, then battery voltage and charging current during normal charging. The large display makes it possible to see the status from a distance, which is handy. Despite of the poor quality of the instructions, I have given the product the five stars it deserves. I share others' concerns about the poor instructions. You really need to figure things out on your own. I was more thrown by "product parameters" on the box and on the instructions. They state a "scope of application" of between 2 amps and 100 amp lead acid battery. That throw me because car batteries and several hundred amp capacity, so I worried it might not be safe. On the other hand, all the instructions state for car batteries, and reading other reviews, clearly others are using it on car batteries without issue. I held my breath and hooked it up. It did a nice, but slow job of topping off a car battery. I am using this to keep charged, a car battery which I use an inverter to power my tankless gas water heater during power outages. My wife can live without power for several hours, but not hot water! ... show more

I was surprised to learn this battery charger has a fan and it's one you can hear running every time you use it. I really don't like that. The reason for 3 stars on 'Easy to use' is because the charging cables and power cable are much too short. Other brands of chargers have interchangeable charging cables. When preparing for winter I can attach the separate cables to each vehicle and then move the charger around as necessary. This method of charging multiple vehicles is impossible with this charger rendering it unusable for the majority of my vehicles. It's also unusable on any vehicle that does not use the standard battery clamps which would include all 4 of our motorcycles. In summary this battery charger does work, it will charge your battery but you better have space for the charger to sit right next to the battery and a long extension cord for power. ... show more

Right out of the box I thought this charger feels like a toy, the housing and alligator clips feel very cheap. But what matters most is does it work. I currently do not have any batteries that are dead. I did hook it up to my 12 volt back up sump pump battery which is an AGM battery series 31 if I remember correctly, The same type of Battery I use for my trolling motor. The screen lit up and said it was charging and then said the battery was full. you can cycle through the modes, standard, AGM, motorcycle, trickle I believe, Maybe more. So bottom line it appears to work, feels cheap. It is only $60 dollars. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the amazon page says Standard US plug but then shows a picture of a European plug, which is confusing. The unit also shows the temperature and implies it is of some importance to charging, which I have not seen on a charger before but none the less it's there, large on the screen and in Celsius which means nothing to me and It is not changeable. The instructions make very little sense and you can kind of get an idea of what they are trying to say in some of the instances, like intelligent charging is most likely trickle charging. Other things like one mode saying it is for standard car batteries and the next mode saying it is for car batteries with start - stop function is unfamiliar to me as well most of the other instructions. I have included a picture of them. In the end I believe you can get by using it with as much common sense as possible, I'm not sure it would do much harm if you had it in the wrong mode as long as it is a 12volt battery. It just might be slow if you have it in trickle charge and want it charging faster. I am no expert though and if these instructions are actually helpful then they are intended for experts and not laypersons. I deducted one star for the cheap feel and the difficult instructions, chargers are usually pretty easy to use and these instructions make it seem more complicated than it needs to be and if you have never used a charger before they could overwhelm you and lead you to not even use it. ... show more

Works well to keep a maintenance charge on the old guy truck. We have an old 75 chevy that is driven for taking the grandkids around the ranch. It isn't driven often but is needed to be ready when they show up. This charger keeps it ready to go and maintains the battery.
