It is heavy looks like it would withstand some fire. I live in an area where firefighters would be on scene fairly fast, and am comfortable keeping things in this safe. Easy set up. If you live rural sure splurge on something much more pricy (or keep tons of really flammable stuff around it--which seems like a strange thing to do, but hey to each their own). As a firefighter for 18 years, I sorta know what safes do what under fire conditions, and this balanced my need for fire protection as well as price. Came with a fire bag, and if I really wanted more protection, I could waterproof items inside and place a little drywall around whatever it is, even fiberglass. It said FIREPROOF AND WATERPROOF as for fireproof there was no rating on the safe and the only reason I bought it was because it came with one fireproof envelope that was rated and I bought a set of fireproof envelopes that was also rated. It arrived earlier in the day as I hoped, so it was NOT left on the porch and possibly taken. Later, I opened up the packaging, read the easy to understand directions, placed in chosen location and started loading it up. Now, my important papers and some items that are precious to me items are SAFER! Yet, I still have room for any other items that I think need to be protected. ...So I am very glad that I got this size and not the smaller one.
