Very nice safe for the money. It fits perfectly in the corner of my spare room. The metal seems to be of a pretty high quality and gauge, and the latches/bolts provide a good amount of security. The keypad pin is extremely easy to setup and put in, and there is a spare key and extra battery backup in the event that the keypad battery dies. I also like how it comes with a pistol rest and shelf with multiple height options already installed, just move the shelf as needed. Was shopping for a gun safe (residential security container). Wasn’t quite ready to jump to $900 Steelwater or better (more expensive) container (400lbs). Looked at a BJ’s $500 option as well – but they wanted $200 shipping! Which put us in range of their $600 locally in stock safe (nice safe)..that weighs 500lbs! We live in a somewhat rural area with not many options for local purchase. Additionally, we wanted a safe/container for the upstairs bedroom – so the thought of hauling 500lbs up a non-straight set of stairs introduced other concerns for us. So we decided to give the Moutec a try. First of all – free shipping via Amazon – can’t complain about that! Second, it is in the 80-90lb class – so easy for me to bring upstairs by myself with a std hand truck that I have! I found the item very well packaged with only one small ½ inch blemish (paint scrape) on a back edge corner – not noticeable and completely acceptable. No assembly required. Had convenient mounting holes for the floor or back (wall) – I used the back for wall mount. Due to my baseboard that I didn’t want to move or cut, I used a wood spacer between the back of the safe and the wall with long toggle bolt fasteners. The toggle bolts needed a 1/2inch hole and the pre stamped holes in the safe were just shy of that (fine for the very robust included fasteners). I can tell you that drilling the holes bigger was not easy – you’re not going to drill through this container with your standard household drill and bits. But I did manage to make them just a hair larger for my toggle bolts with the right equipment. I added an inexpensive motion sensitive light to the inside and I had a couple small adhesive bumpers in my toolbox that I added to the door frame to ‘soften’ the door closing ‘clang’. The adjustable gun rack was actually pretty useful for my rifles. I certainly appreciate the silent mode of the key pad. The key pad works like a champ, but honestly it doesn’t instill a ton of confidence (fairly flexible). Some very light backlighting would have been a nice touch for the key pad. Maybe I should have gone with the biometric access version. The handle and lock knob feel sturdy. The internal lock box is a nice touch. Overall, for the price point, I’m extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend it. ... show more

This cabinet fits my needs. I wanted something with a locking setup, fairly decent security (this is not a heavy duty safe that weighs 500lbs) and a good size. I have the 5 gun model and it has good room for my setup. The inside cabinet does have a moveable gun rack made of foam, I wish it would move further down, the range is about 6 inches up and down. I plan to purchase a small shelf to put on the bottom to tackle that issue. I do like the fact it comes basic, you can modify it with shelves with magnetic backing. the pricing makes sense, because you will need to buy some other items to compliment the cabinet, so the money "saved" can be used to purchase other items. The inside little locking shelf is a decent size, can hold my essentials. I purchased battery operated lights to help see inside. The mounting screws to secure the cabinet to the wall didn't work for me, I went to the hardware store to get drywall secure bolts. Overall this is a good choice if you are setting up your first time gun cabinet and looking to have safety as a must. ... show more

    • WHAT I EXPECTED/MORE THAN I EXPECTED

I did extensive research before I purchased the Moutec Large Rifle Safe. During that research, I found this safe on 3 different “best of” lists on the net, read most of the reviews on Amazon and others. One comment I kept running into was how good Alan, of Moutec customer service is. Those two factors pushed me to purchase this particular safe. After I purchased the safe, the shipping company emailed me that I would have the safe on Saturday by 9:00 pm, but at 8:30 pm on that Saturday, I received another email saying the delivery was delayed and that I should contact Moutec, which I did, on that Saturday night. In a very short time, (that night!) Alan emailed me back telling me I’d have it Monday. That was impressive! However, it came on Sunday, the next day! Even more impressive! So, how is the safe itself? Everything I expected, based on all of the positive review, and more than I expected. The packaging, which was exceptional, kept the safe, safe! No dings, no dents – just a perfect new safe. The keys, hardware, batteries, warranty and instructions were attached to the handle on the outside of the locked safe in a little black pouch. Using the key to unlock the safe is simplicity itself, as is putting in the batteries and setting the code on the keypad – all done in the matter of a few minutes. It is extremely well built, especially for this price point. It is balanced and won’t fall over when the door is open and not yet bolted to a wall or floor, but then again, to not bolt it to something kind of defeats the whole purpose, doesn’t it? You would have to spend thousands for a real safe. This is not that, nor is it meant to be. What this safe will do is protect your guns and belongings from children, nosy people who may be in your home, and keep guns out of the hands of your everyday, common break-in thief. Mine is mounted in a corner, bolted to the wall and the floor and is out of sight. Unless the thief is a pro, good luck getting into it. I am extremely pleased with Moutec - the product and Alan. If you are reading this because you are considering purchasing this safe, I recommend strongly that you do. This is a lot of product for the money and it is backed by a company with great customer service. What more can you ask for? ... show more

The Moutec Large Rifle safe is a perfect solution to hold valuables, firearms, and ammo. For the price point you definitely get your money's worth. The safe holds five rifles and ammo boxes comfortably along with three pistols if your purchases the door accessory. There is a nice lock box feature within the exterior of the safe with separate lock and key adding additional security for your valuables. Speaking of security the door keypad allows you to program an 4-8 digit pin which is a nice feature for the locking mechanism. You also have 5 bolts securing the do, 1 at the top and bottom, 3 on the left side door. There is also a key entry failsafe feature in case you forget your pin or battery runs out of power for the keypad. The safe is pretty sturdy without it being mounted to the wall or floor. The Moutec comes with mounting anchors and holes (holes are big enough to add your own custom mounting for i.e. concrete flooring in a basement) in the back or bottom of safe for desired level of stability. Definitely recommended to mount safe to wall and/or floor for added safety and security. I have seen similar name brand rifle safes go for $1200 where the only difference between that and the Moutec was that it had a biometric capability which is not always reliable in a pinch. The safe does what it is supposed to do. Slow down a determined thief and deny access to mice, dogs, and children. The 3-4 rifle cabinet does not have a separate lock box, just a shelf. I like the relatively short height of this safe. There is zero assembly required. When locked, it feels secure. Of course, you can break in to anything.
