I bought these cases to use for an Arduino project with a 1602 LCD / keypad shield. It looked like the inside dimensions were just big enough to let the shield snug in, but nope, the corners of the shield juuust overlap with the case's corner screw lugs. Too bad; it's a great case for the project otherwise. Sturdy, attractive, easy to machine. The Arduino's mounting holes can be made to line up with one or another of the case's internal lugs but not two at once. They don't line up at all if the Arduino is placed all the way to one side of the case (so that power or USB access holes could be made and the Arduino also mounted to one lug). If you have an Arduino project that uses one or even two shields and the shields don't extend out much further than than the Arduino itself, this case could be a good choice. Or a project that will have lights, buttons, or switches mounted to the lid and still have clearance between the dodads' connectors and the Arduino's Dupont connectors, this is a good choice. In terms of being waterproof, sorry, no. The "seal" for the case's lid is a strip of rubber rather than a continuous loop, so it'll leak at the gap where the strip's ends meet. Better than nothing, but more water-resistant-ish than waterproof.

Well, I'm not testing whether it's waterproof at all; first thing I did was drilled multiple big holes and installed big push-buttons. It came with the removable rubber gasket and the slot in the lid for it, looks like it would be pretty tight if you used that *and hadn't drilled holes through the box* :-). Exterior surface is nice and smooth, presentable in public. Interior was fine, not perfectly pretty but no sharp edges or abrasive areas or anything looking like serious manufacturing problems. Seems thick enough (the top specifically; though I think it's uniform) to hold multiple pushbuttons at normal spacings and not collapse when people push the buttons a lot (ask me again in a year). Screws are visible in the top, as the pictures show. If you care, you care. Inside, those screws (which are actual machine-screws) engage in metal inserts set in the plastic, so it's not just held together by metal biting into plastic.

I'm pleased with these project boxes. I needed only one but it's good to have a backup. In the picture you'll see a hole in the box. That was drilled by me for a switch. That's when I saw that there are several small plastic rises from the bottom, presumably to hold things in place. I used a Dremel to cut them out so my switches would fit flat on the bottom. The corners have brass threads and they include a gasket to make it waterproof. I didn't need that so I'll keep it with the other one. This is very strong plastic. It's a very nice set of project boxes and I would buy them again.

Initially I ordered a pack of two 3.94 x 2.68 x 1.97 that are pretty good. I would definitively give those 4 or maybe even a 5 star rating. Later I ordered a 6.22 x 3.54 x 2.36 inch. Well, this one is not made of same material of the smaller box. The plastic is thinner and less flexible. The junction box comes with no holes, so I had to drill the ones I need (what is the use of an electrical junction box if you cannot get an electric cable it?) When carefully (really carefully) drilling it the box just broke in pieces... In the first hole it chipped is a way that likely would prevent a good seal with cable glands.... on the second hole it broke into pieces. Quality is not a constant for this family of products and it is likely good reviews were luck to get a better product, such as the pair of smaller boxes I got.

I used some of these boxes in a few sizes to enclose some of the projects I built for clients. I found them easy to work with and easy for my laser cutter and machining tools to cut and engrave. For engraving, I had to add a masking layer to allow easy use of high contrast paint to make the engravings stand out but the masking sheets stuck well to the boxes. The only drawback I saw to this design is that there is no 'top' without holes near the corners to present a more finished look. I solved that by making decorative pegs to hide the screw holes. There is very little inside to support internal elements, so I had to make inserts to hold all the circuit boards and the like, but that made the whole thing more serviceable so I actually like that better now.

I did purchase multiple units for my project. For the asking price I was expecting little bit better finish cosmetically. Unfortunately there are sprue sticking, scratches or undercuts, and some permanent molding flaws from factory on all four sides as if the plastic material seems to have stuck away from the mold when manufactured during the plastic injection molding process. Despite these flaws the box otherwise is functional but if you are obsessively compulsive of things to be perfect then this ABS box is not for you. The Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) polymer material is easy to work with and super glue sticks nicely & so does hot glue and does not crack when drilling holes etc. Overall okay product. Rating the product with three stars!

The box is great. Easy to make holes for glands and buttons. My only complaint is that the injection gate for the lid is on the outside, dead center, of the lid, and recessed. So it's there no mistaking it, like a pimple on the tip of your nose. If you're doing something where you'll remove that part for a button or a display, no problem. My application had buttons towards the bottom of the lid and indicators towards the top evenly spaced from the respective top and bottom edges. I wound up putting the indicators in a row across the middle to remove the gate mark. It works, just not as visually pleasing to me. All said, a good box and I will buy again. I'll just plan better the next time.
