Description

All Natural. Made from the bark of fir trees. Hygroscopic. This means it absorbs moisture and then releases it, creating humidity. The perfect substrate for humidity loving reptiles. Conducts and evenly distributes heat. Adds environmental stimulus. Allows natural digging and burrowing activity. Absorbent. Pulls icky waste away from your animal. Decorative. Provides your terrarium with that natural tropical rainforest look. Re-usable and super easy to maintain. All you have to do is soak in hot water every 2 to 3 months for fresh, clean bark. (ReptiBark should be replaced at least once a year). Smaller chips provide better moisture retention (increased surface area). Prevents live food from hanging out in your substrate (small pieces interlock).

We use this as the top layer of substrate for our crested gecko's terrarium. I don't have any live plants in there and this sits on top of a mesh liner to separate it from the hydroballs on the very bottom of the tank. Overall, it is very easy to work with. I liked the price point and the fact that it can be reused; but for the price point, I won't feel bad if I need to buy more versus cleaning what I have. For our 12x12x18 tall terrarium, I used about half a bag. Like I said, I don't have any live plants, so I can't speak as to how well it hold moisture for such an application, but my gecko has never bothered it nor seemed interested in trying to eat it. It helps hold in moisture so it keeps her tank humid, even though we only spray it once in the morning and once before bed. It has a very pleasing color and it makes her terrarium look beautiful and natural. I would highly recommend this to other crestie owners for it's price point, durability, appearance and low maintenance. ... show more

These bark pieces are significantly smaller than other reptile bark bedding. Since I'm using it as soil additive for house plants, this is really ideal for me! Pieces seem to be in the quarter to half inch range, while most other barks are half to whole inch in size. It's a little more beefy than traditional bark fines that are used in bonsai and house plants, but so much cheaper and doubles as small orchid bark. This is the 4th brand of report reptile bark I've tried and is by far my favorite. It did come very moist in the bag, so it needs to be opened right away and allowed time to air out if it's not being used right away. ... show more

I didn't buy it for reptile use I got it to use in my Orchids. I liked how the bark was small and easily worked in around the roots. I also liked that it was clean and dust free no need to rinse it before use. Made the Orchids pot setup look nicer unlike my previous Orchid barks.
