Features

  • Natural product made from the ground bark of fir trees
  • Perfect substrate for all high humidity loving reptiles
  • Made in the USA

Description

All Natural. Made from the bark of fir trees. Hygroscopic. This means it absorbs moisture and then releases it, creating humidity. The perfect substrate for humidity loving reptiles. Conducts and evenly distributes heat. Adds environmental stimulus. Allows natural digging and burrowing activity. Absorbent. Pulls icky waste away from your animal. Decorative. Provides your terrarium with that natural tropical rainforest look. Re-usable and super easy to maintain. All you have to do is soak in hot water every 2 to 3 months for fresh, clean bark. (ReptiBark should be replaced at least once a year). Smaller chips provide better moisture retention (increased surface area). Prevents live food from hanging out in your substrate (small pieces interlock).

  • Works well!

I got this for my leopard gecko and i will forever get this for him. It lasts a couple months and it’s the perfect size for my tank! Super easy to clean out too!

  • Not as good as it used to be
Size: 4 QT
My bag contained a lot of green stem fibers instead of the the bark nuggets you'd expect. Maybe like 5% of the bag? There were also a few black rocks as well as a chunk of plastic. Nothing like the quality I got from a bag I bought years ago. Still usable and cheaper than a lot of other brands, just be sure to sift thoroughly before use. ... show more

  • Great substrate for crested geckos!
Size: 4 QT
We use this as the top layer of substrate for our crested gecko's terrarium. I don't have any live plants in there and this sits on top of a mesh liner to separate it from the hydroballs on the very bottom of the tank. Overall, it is very easy to work with. I liked the price point and the fact that it can be reused; but for the price point, I won't feel bad if I need to buy more versus cleaning what I have. For our 12x12x18 tall terrarium, I used about half a bag. Like I said, I don't have any live plants, so I can't speak as to how well it hold moisture for such an application, but my gecko has never bothered it nor seemed interested in trying to eat it. It helps hold in moisture so it keeps her tank humid, even though we only spray it once in the morning and once before bed. It has a very pleasing color and it makes her terrarium look beautiful and natural. I would highly recommend this to other crestie owners for it's price point, durability, appearance and low maintenance. ... show more

  • Can be good if you take precautions
Size: 4 QT
-Quality: 7/10 -Value: 5/10 -Recommendation: 6/10 -Overall: 6/10 Pros: Smells good, Fir bark, no added chemicals, holds moisture, easy to scoop out Advice: change the heading(4 quarts for 5 is misleading), sterilize before packing to kill off pests Review: This can be a good product if you take the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of getting unwanted pests that may come with this product. Like many have suggested these barks may harbor unwanted pests. I highly doubt the mites that sometimes come with these barks are snake mites, they probably are soil mites or grain mites but still, it can be annoying. These are the steps I took to sterilize the barks: -I put them in an aluminum baking tray and rinsed them off first (Tray can be bought at the dollar store) -Wet the bark and put them in the oven (Needs to be wet so the heat and steam can kill off the pests and eggs) - Set the temp to 250 degrees and bake it for an hour (I was near the kitchen and checked on it every 10 minutes, so I don't burn down the house ;) If you follow these steps correctly you won't have issues with the pests. ... show more

  • Always pretreat your substrate
Size: 4 QT
Good substrate, holds moisture well. Used for my ball pythons. Always pretreat your substrate for any bugs or mites by putting the bag in the freezer for a day, overnight, whatever. This will kill any type of bug that could harm your reptiles. Snake mites are a thing and can come in substrate.
