Yellow flame pipe insert works great once you get it in the casing. It fills easily with butane. The flint rolls pretty smoothly without too much effort, though I am getting a callous on my thumb! The flame comes out the side for lightning my pipe. That works. The only problem is it’s made for right-handed people and I am predominantly left-handed, but I can’t ding them for that. This thing lasts me maybe a day on a refill before it starts to sputter and peter out. So it's either leaking, or it just doesn't work as advertised. I tried doing Zippo's alleged "lifetime warranty" but the logistics associated with it are bad enough that the warranty may as well not exist. Probably by design. Also, you are guaranteed to burn your thumb trying to use this as an actual pipe lighter. This is trash. Spend more money on a nicer lighter, or spend less money on a more functional lighter. I got this insert to replace an original lighter fluid one for lighting my tobacco pipes and so that I could use a sentimental Zippo body. The insert came with everything but the butane. Getting the butane in was a breeze with a zippo fuel can. The flint wheel, when still brand new, can chew into your thumb. This does not have an "lid open = gas on" gas switch. You have to hold the button down like on any disposable lighter. With my big hands/fingers the gas button is just about too small to hit consistently while striking. Once I got the hang of it, this has become my favorite pipe lighter. The gentle flame is of sufficient size to get to those moist half-bowls some aromatics tend to form. In my old Zippo body, the famous Zippo "click" is still crisp, as is opening and closing it. Old dog, new tricks! Remember to occasionally wipe down the chrome where the flame comes out and where the flint throws sparks, and you'll have a beautiful lighter to puff away on your pipes with for a long time. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I bought the butane yellow side flame pipe lighter insert which I also like very much! (I do wish the flame was adjustable on the butane insert however Zippo does NOT offer the yellow flame butane with any adjustment.) Lights my cigarette just fine, be careful when fully filled the flame is quite long. Lights my pipe great and no fuel taste disturbing your favorite buds true flavor ;) I love the design on this Zippo and the fact that it's glow in the dark. It's a nice addition to my collection and the butane pipe yellow flame insert is a nice upgrade! I Made the case as I wanted something soft as to not scratch my Zippos. The Zippo snap cases Etc can actually scratch your Zippo on the inside where the Snap Fastener is located inside, so I elected for the fifth pocket off an old pair of jeans I.E the denim. ... show more

Good but not for the reason you’d want or think. I like the insert, I own both the pipe one and the standard soft yellow flame. I got the pipe one thinking it had the hole going through both sides so that you’d hold the flame over your pipe and as you draw, the flame would be drawn/sucked down towards the pipe, similar to the standard (non-butane) pipe insert. However, one side is closed, meaning you’d have to tip the lighter towards the pipe or bowl, which leads to the flame being near your fingers and burning you. BUT… this thing is a great option for outdoor use compared to the standard yellow flame. It’s slightly windproof due to the closed back so the flame keeps going much better in slight wind than the regular butane yellow flame insert. So ironically, the one I intended to use not for pipes will be used for pipes, and the one I intended to use for pipes is better for using not with pipes. ... show more

Zippo reached out and let me know that air can get trapped making the lighting inconsistent and hindering a full fill. They instructed me to poke the filling valve until all of the contents were emptied, then to refill with butane. It’s best to empty it completely before refilling. (By the way, the flint-looking thing at the end of the spring IS NOT THE FLINT. The flint is separate and loose. Newbie mistake. I also replaced the flint.) Thank you, Zippo! I’m back to loving my lighter. ❤️) Previous review: I was hopeful for this product. When it was new it took two to three tries to light, and just got more and more inconsistent. Now it stopped working. I’ve filled with zippo butane, checked the flint… nothing. It’s also not wind proof like other zippos. I wrote to zippo a week ago and have heard nothing from them. I’ve gone back to using my lighter from the dollar store. Save your money. ... show more
